Blackhawks seek to clinch playoff berth in Nashville

Two seasons ago, the Blackhawks and Predators battled their way through the first series in the 2010 Stanley Cup playoffs. It was an unforgettable series, marked in particular by Game 5, where Marian Hossa scored a dramatic overtime goal that helped tip the series in Chicago's favorite. The rest of the season is history, of course, as the Blackhawks went on to win the Stanley Cup.

Last season, the Predators made team history when they reached the second round of the playoffs for the first time. This year, they'd like to go a little further - perhaps even all the way. Last night's win for the Predators was the 500th for head coach Barry Trotz, the only coach in Nas...

Blackhawks scratch a point out of the Devils in the shootout

Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford spoke of New Jersey goalie Marty Brodeur before the game. The future-HHOF goalie had been one of Crawford's idols when he was growing up in Montréal; the idea of one day growing up and playing against him was a seemingly impossible thing. But here he was, ready to take the ice vs. Brodeur.

Brodeur was drafted in 1990. He got his first call ups to the NHL during the 1991-92 season. To compare how long he's been in the NHL, Blackhawks rookie Andrew Shaw was born in July 1991. He owns just about every goalie record in the NHL, and #30 will be retired in New Jersey the second he decides he's done playing. But until that day comes, he...

Blackhawks & Stars play tonight in possible first round preview

Friday night marks a possible first-round preview as the Blackhawks and Stars drop the puck on their final matchup during the regular season.

The two teams are currently ranked sixth and third in the conference respectively, and if those standings hold, it should make for an entertaining first round -- after all, it was Dallas's own poor effort in their game #82 that sent the Blackhawks, not the Stars, to the playoffs last spring.

Before these two teams can look at April, however, they must first finish the regular season. Dallas has taken 2 of the 3 games the teams have played so far this season.

The Stars are on a hot streak right now, and nobody is hotte...

Blackhawks and Senators battle it out in Ottawa tonight

Last year, the Ottawa Senators were one of the worst teams in the league, and with very few changes made to the team or staff over the summer, not much better was expected of them this year.

It just goes to show how quirky hockey can be and how you can never predict how seasons will go. This year, the Senators have remained solidly in playoff position for most if not all of the season.

Being in different conferences mean these two teams only see each other once a year on average; they last faced off on January 7, 2011, in Chicago; the Blackhawks won that one, 3-2.

The similarities between the Senators and the Blackhawks right now are many: both sit at 6th ...

Should the Red Wings Have Traded for Jeff Carter?

When news broke that Pavel Datsyuk was out for 2-3 weeks from a minor knee surgery, everyone in Hockeytown panicked. After a few minutes, a few tweets, and a few deep breaths later, we were assured that Pav was going to be okay and in fact it was just a minor surgery. It was taken as a precaution so the Wings’ best player would be 100% come playoff time.

I’m not one to generally panic, since the Red Wings have been in stretches without their best players before. However, the Winged Wheel has had a great season going so far, and we are entering into a portion of the season where points are at a premium. We all saw what happened last year in Game 7 of the Western Conferenc...

Blackhawks seek to begin a late-season surge vs Leafs tonight

The Chicago Blackhawks fanbase held its breath as the trade deadline approached, wondering what magical trade that Stan Bowman might possibly manage to pull off. The "puck-moving defenseman" or the "second-line center" that the team had coveted all season? Perhaps the kind of blockbuster trade that nobody saw coming, one of the Hawks' stars for another team's stars? A goalie to help bail out Crawford and Emery?

At the deadline, however, none of these scenarios happened. The Blackhawks picked up one defenseman, Johnny Oduya, from the Winnipeg Jets; and shipped off John Scott to the NY Rangers. Scott had played 29 games for Chicago with an average TOI ...

Hawks stars shine in NYC – beating Rangers 4-2

Ah New York, New York “I'm gonna make a brand new start of it In old New York.  If I can make it there, I'd make it anywhere Come on, come through, New York, New York.” – Kander/Ebb lyrics

And make it there the Hawks certainly did.  This game had everything, Two Original Six teams meeting who don’t normally see each other, historic Madison Square Garden and ey New Yawkers in the stands. If that was not enough to stir the blood, you had the classic offence versus defense and two teams on different trajectories.

I was not sure what to expect in this one except the Hawks had nothing to lose. What I was pleasantly surpris...

Blackhawks start the February road trip in Vancouver

Tuesday evening in Vancouver, the Chicago Blackhawks will kick off the start of their February 9-game road stretch with a tilt against the Canucks. Captain Jonathan Toews will be back in the lineup after missing the January 24th game vs. the Predators and the All-Star Game due to a minor injury. It is also likely that Patrick Sharp will be back for the Hawks after missing a few weeks due to a fractured wrist.

So far this season, the Blackhawks and Canucks are 1-1, each taking a win by four goals in the other's barn - the Canucks won 6-2 on November 6 at the United Center in the infamous "game with all the PPGs" (five, to be exact). T...

Blackhawks punish Sabres 6-2

This would be a rare meeting between two hockey clubs. Being that one is in the East and the other in the West these clubs do not face each other often and are unfamiliar with each other’s tendencies. This will in fact be the only meeting this year between the two teams.

These clubs are also going in different directions. Buffalo is fourth in their division and eleventh in the Eastern Conference with a 19-21-5 record and the face of the franchise goalie Ryan Miller is struggling. In fact for this game Buffalo went with Jhonas Enroth in net. Miller however is not the only one however who needs to play better for Buffalo.

 The Blackhawks were coming...

Blackhawks take a bite out of the Sharks

The Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks last faced off in San Jose in early December, a tight 3-2 OT win. Before that was the 0-1 loss in San Jose the night before Thanksgiving, a game which saw Chicago battling back after suffering a crushing - and humiliating - 9-2 loss to Edmonton a few nights before.

Since that time, Chicago has played well enough to land themselves in constant competition for the number one position in the West. Likewise, the Sharks have finally found some smoother sailing after rough patches to start the season, and have now clawed their way to the top of the struggling Pacific division. Of course, they still have ex-Blackhawk (and Cup-winning) Antti Niemi sig...
