Islanders Skate To First Road Win!

The Prudential Center was as loud as it had been the entire night. The New Jersey Devils just tied the game at 3 with 2 seconds remaining in regulation.

Or did they?

After a league review in Toronto, it was determined that Zach Parise’s skate directed the puck into the net and the goal was overturned.

Point Taken, Point Given Away - Islanders/ Flyers Post Game

The Philadelphia Flyers love playing against the New York Islanders.

For the 22nd time in 23 meetings the Flyers came away with two points, erasing a 3-1 deficit, and defeated the Islanders 4-3 in overtime.

Danny Briere scored his second goal of the game with 2:26 remaining in overtime, seconds after the Flyers killed a rare overtime penalty.

Where Have The Isles Gone?

Before I begin to talk about the current state of the New York Islanders, I have to ask where this team that is portrayed in this YouTube clip (courtesy of user bufmemaud) has gone?

"We saw it last year, I saw it. I saw the energy and the desperation in our game last year. The second half, we had the best record in the National Hockey League after the All-Star break. We were physical. We were tough to play against."

-Islanders head coach Jack Capuano after the New York Islanders 6-0 loss Saturday night to the Boston Bruins.

Ask the Boston Bruins and Sidney Crosby and the rest of the Pittsburgh...

Islanders End Slide, Defeat Canadiens

The Islanders scored four goals in the second period and held off some late game pressure and defeated the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 4-3.   Rick DiPietro got the win in relief of Evgeni Nabokov, who left the ice just 7:55 into the first period due to an apparent lower body injury.  Nabokov is said to have a hamstring issue, and will be evaluated today.

The first shot against DiPietro came on a power play, and as has been the Islanders luck so far this season, the shot beat him.  However, in a new turn of events for the Islanders and their luck, this time the post was there to back DiPietro up, and the Islanders killed off the power play unscathed.

Battle For New York: Islanders vs Rangers

Preview:  The New York Islanders return home to Nassau Coliseum to take on their all-time rival, the New York Rangers.

The Islanders are coming off a western road trip which saw them give up a 3 goal lead in an overtime loss to the Avalanche, and a clinic put on by the Canucks in a loss to Vancouver.  The Islanders have played better hockey since changing up their offensive lines a few games ago, putting up more scoring chances more consistently.  However, they haven’t been able to translate the better play into wins.  A win tonight against the Rangers would mean even more than usual, as it would end a slide of losing efforts.

The Rangers ...

Josh Bailey, Meet Michael Grabner

Imagine this:

You are 18-years-old.  You have just completed the best hockey season of your entire life – racing up draft boards from a low-mid round pick into a projected mid first round pick.  It is an incredibly exciting night, as you sit there with your family waiting and hoping to hear your name called.

You watch as commissioner Gary Bettman announces the Islanders trading down 2 picks.  Then trading down 2 more picks.  The Islanders staff takes the stage ready to announce their ninth overall pick, and you are still not thinking too much of it.

Then you hear it.

“The New York Islanders select Josh Bailey.”

Comeau Gonna Go?

There's no secret as to who has possibly been the most disappointing Islander to date. Blake Comeau, who is looking to improve on a personal best 46-point season in 2011, is off to a terrible start with zero points in 11 games played along with a -5 rating.

Comeau has progressed nicely each year that he has been part of the New York Islanders organization. He had a three game stint with the big club back in 2007 before being sent back to the AHL, where he scored 43 points in 61 games with the Sound Tigers. But after that, Comeau would basically solidify himself as a member of the Islanders from then on out.

He put up 15 points in 2008, 25 points in 2009 and then 35 in...

Mile High Meltdown - Avalanche Roll Past Islanders In Overtime

For 38 minutes, you had a glimpse of what could be for the New York Islanders.

Josh Bailey, Brian Rolston, and Michael Grabner all had goals. The Isles were up 3-0 and cruising to an easy two points.

A 5 on 3 advantage, and power play goal for the Colorado Avalanche later.. Game on.

Islanders Prepare for Avalanche

“And with the first overall selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the New York Islanders are proud to select John Tavares.”

After months of speculation leading up to the 2009 NHL draft, the Islanders rewarded their fan base after a long and painful season by using the first pick to select the longtime #1 ranked player in the draft.  It has been said that when top prospects remain at the top of a draft board for a long period of time, analysts tend to search so hard for their flaws that when they finally find one, it becomes significantly over exaggerated.

So it was with Tavares, who was ranked at the top of his draft class since about age 14. ...

Time For A Brian Rolston Revival

Brian Rolston was added to the Islanders roster over the summer for two reasons: to help get to the cap floor with his $5 million contract and to add an experienced veteran that could contribute offensively.

Through the first ten games of the season, Rolston was struggling to produce in the form in which both he and the Islanders had hoped. He had dressed for nine of the first 10 games of the year, (missing one as his wife was expected to give birth) and only put up two assists while playing on the third line with Josh Bailey and Blake Comeau.

Comeau is still searching for his first point of the year and Bailey picked up an assist in last night's win over the Capitals; his...
