Wings Tame the Wild in Dominating Fashion

It was the type of game you could only dream about, as far as the Detroit Red Wings are concerned.

What began as a game that could still be turned around after the first period, turned into domination in every aspect of the game as the Wings crushed the Minnesota Wild in 6-0 victory at home.

Surely, the Minnesota bench lost a bit of confidence as Valtteri Filppula scored off a Zetterberg and Kronwall assist 35 seconds into the first period. The forward would get his 20th goal of the season, but maybe he was just lucky.

Game preview: Getting Wild in Chicago

The Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks last met up on a rainy day in mid-December in St. Paul. The Blackhawks came away with a shoot out win, with Patrick Kane providing a memorable goal to seal the win.

It was the second game in an eight-game losing streak for the Wild; including being shut out 0-4 by the Canucks on Vancouver ice. The Wild has been hurt by injuries; Clayton Stoner just returned to the roster...

Isles Look to Tame Wild

The New York Islanders will take on the Minnesota Wild tonight. The Islanders have been playing well lately, staying in every game they’ve played since breaking their long losing streak almost a month ago. Despite a 4-0-2 stretch which saw the young Isles climb back up the standings, their most recent games, regardless of their improved play, have not yielded the type of success they have needed in the standings. They have walked away from recent games where 2 points was well within their grasp.

There are many stages to a rebuild, and the Islanders seem to be on the right track for a slow, steady, and successful one. We saw this season during their long losing streak, that unlike last season when they took the ice for each game with a look of despair, that this team comes out of the locker room hungry and expecting to win every time they play.

The next lesson that this young group needs to learn is simple: Finish Games.
