Blackhawks romp to 8-1 win over Stars in Dallas

The Blackhawks are clearly ready to start another winning streak, as they took their second win in a row, this one an 8-1 romp over the Stars on Dallas ice.

It took Chicago more than six minutes to get their first recorded SOG, but after that, the floodgates were opened - the Blackhawks would outshoot the Stars 11-3 in the first period. Three of those would be goals: Jonathan Toews opened the scoring at 9:05, a redirect off a Leddy shot. Toews would score again under two minutes later to give Chicago a 2-0 lead; and then Nick Leddy shoveled in a goal on the Dallas doorstep to make it 3-0 with 2:06 left in the period.

Although the Blackhawks didn't score again unt...

Blackhawks at Stars: Game Preview

CHI@DAL- Game Preview

7:00pm CST

The Chicago Blackhawks are back on track and ready to perform tonight in Dallas against the Stars for the second time this season.

The Hawks prevented a three game skid on Thursday night, taking the shootout win over the stellar looking Blue Jackets 2-1 to end the Chicago/Columbus series.

The Blackhawks (22-2-3) brought up big Jimmy Hayes to fill the 2nd line spot left empty by Patrick Sharp and his shoulder injurt that will have him off the ice another 2-3 weeks. Hayes filled the position well, but more importantly the solid 3rd and 4th lines were restored to early season form and Johnny Oduya notched his first goal of the season.<...

Blackhawks rally past Stars; remain undefeated

Marian Hossa scored his fifth goal of the season in the form of an overtime game-winner as the Chicago Blackhawks rallied from two goals down to defeat the Dallas Stars 3-2 on Thursday night. Hossa’s goal came on Chicago’s seventh power play of the night off a beautiful behind-the-back backhand feed from Patrick Kane, pushing the team’s record to a league-best 4-0-0.

For a while it looked as though Chicago might not be able to solve Dallas net-minder Kari Lehtonen, as the Finnish-born former Thrasher frustrated one attempt after another from the Blackhawks as they outshot the Stars 12-6 in the first period to no avail.

Compounding matters was Dal...

Kari Lehtonen Signs 5 Year Extension

According to the Dallas Stars' official Twitter account, goaltender Kari Lehtonen has signed a five year extension worth $29.5 million. This extension will take Lehtonen up to the 2017-18 season with a cap hit of $5.9 million per season.

The native of Helsinki, Finland, signed a three year extension upon arrival from Dallas, and one year remains. Under the current CBA, players must wait until there is at least one year remaining on a contract to sign an extension. The current CBA expires at midnight tomorrow.

With the Stars, Lehtonen has posted a 72-50-15 record along with a 2.56 goals against average and a .915 save percentage over 140 games. GM Joe Nieuwendyk believes th...

Blackhawks’ fast start leads to BIG 4-1 win over Dallas

They say everything in Texas is bigger and nothing could have been truer in last night’s Chicago Blackhawks/Dallas Stars game. There was big goals, big saves and big hits which, saw the Hawks standing their ground and coming out of big D with a big two points. More importantly the Hawks are showing they may not out muscle you but they don’t need to in order to skate away with wins.

The Hawks have played the Blues, Rangers, Kings & now the Stars who are all solid defensive teams with excellent netminders and top drawer defenses. The Hawks managed to get points in each of these games which are huge coming down the stretch to the playoffs. In what could be a glimpse of ...

Blackhawks & Stars play tonight in possible first round preview

Friday night marks a possible first-round preview as the Blackhawks and Stars drop the puck on their final matchup during the regular season.

The two teams are currently ranked sixth and third in the conference respectively, and if those standings hold, it should make for an entertaining first round -- after all, it was Dallas's own poor effort in their game #82 that sent the Blackhawks, not the Stars, to the playoffs last spring.

Before these two teams can look at April, however, they must first finish the regular season. Dallas has taken 2 of the 3 games the teams have played so far this season.

The Stars are on a hot streak right now, and nobody is hotte...

Stars look to keep rolling in Edmonton

It seems as if the Stars' season has been totally turned around in the last few games. They have taken 9 out of a possible 10 points in their last 5 games, which included wins over Montreal, Chicago, Minnesota and Vancounver, as well as a shootout loss in a thrilling encounter at the American Airlines Center against the Penguins.

The run of some sublime performances has lead to Dallas getting back into the playoff picture as they currently occupy eighth place in the Western Conference. Dallas' season was slowly stalling, but over the course of the winning streak they showed huge levels of intensity, passion and unity whilst playing some great hockey.

A surging Stars si...

The Stars' playoff hopes are fading

Heading into the 2011-12 campaign, not many Stars fans were sure of what lied ahead for their team with Brad Richards departing to New York and a rookie coach occupying the bench. With 59 games in the book, the inconsistent Stars currently sit tenth in the Western Conference and with time ticking, playoff hopes are slowly fading into the distance.

It has been a very frustrating season for Dallas supporters this season as the Stars look like a team with so much potential but have struggled to transfer that potential into points. Inconsistency has hurt the Stars throughout the season. To give you the picture, Dallas demolished the defending champions Boston in Texas, yet conceded 5 in...

Crucial game for the Stars in Columbus

The Stars take on a struggling Columbus Blue Jackets side at the Nationwide Arena tonight. The Jackets' season is practically over as they currently sit rock bottom of the NHL with just 36 points from 53 games. In contrast, the Stars season is still very much alive, as they continue to fight to break into the top eight in the Western Conference, currently sitting 2 points behind eighth.

Dallas comes into tonight’s game after suffering a disappointing 4-1 loss to divisional rivals Phoenix in Texas on Tuesday. Despite having more shots in the game, they lacked the cutting edge and didn’t finish off the few chances that they created. Dallas have constantly relied on Kar...
