Blackhawks start annual circus trip with game vs Flames

The Blackhawks (10-7-1) are starting off their ten-day annual "Circus trip" tonight with a game versus the Calgary Flames.

Historically, the late November swing - nicknamed the "circus" trip becuase of the circus which sets up shop at the United Center for two weeks, forcing both the Blackhawks and Bulls out on the road - has been a bonding experience for the team, both off and on the ice. The Blackhawks have been 17-7-1 during their past four circus trips.

Calgary has been a pleasant surprise among the Western teams so far this season, going 12-6-2 (26 points) to date, which puts them third in the Pacific, ahead of both the Kings (24 points) and ...

Hawks burn out in OT; face Canucks Wednesday

 

The Hawks continued a disturbing trend of taking games to OT and not being able to collect the extra point as they fell to the Calgary Flames in overtime to kick off a 6-game road trip.  Both starting goalies were pulled as the points racked up, but the Flames would ultimately emerge victorious as the Hawks dropped their fourth game in a row.

2013-14 Flames Season Primer

In just a little less than 24-hours, the Calgary Flames will open up their first season without Jarome Iginla and Miikka Kiprusoff since 2005-06. It’s the start of a new era in Calgary, as the re-build is well under way. There are no superstars or first overall picks (yet) in the line-up; so to say it could be a long year for the Flames is a fairly accurate statement.
