Heading into Vancouver to face the Canucks, the Flames and the Canucks share one main goal, get their first win of the season. Both teams have got off to sluggish starts as they are winless in their first two games. While the Flames have battled inconsistency, the Canucks have been surrounded by their never ending goalie conundrum between Corey Schneider and Roberto Luongo. One team will get on track tonight, while the other will be digging a deeper hole.
With the Canucks leading the Western Conference, and by having a descent idea on how teams are playing, I think it is time for me to make some predictions on what will happen near the trade deadline for the boys in blue and green starting from the net working our way out.
I see Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider both staying in Vancouver, especially the way both have been playing. Luongo looks rejuvenated and has the passion to play hard. Even watching his practices, you can tell he wants to win and make up for last year’s loss. His game has improved a whole lot better since the beginning of the season. Canucks fans can only hope that Luongo keeps paying stro...
The Vancouver Canucks have only played 11 games this year so far and fans are already giving the team a bunch of flack. Are the 'Nucks still the "team to beat" this year? How much longer will fans put up with the mediocre hockey they have been seeing? Is Roberto Luongo on his way out of Van City this year? Will Vancouver be a legit playoff contender? Brian Raiger breaks down these questions with his own twist on things.
With 11 games in the book, the boys in blue and green have only managed to rack up 11 points. As of now, the Canucks sit in 4th place in the Northwest Division, 10th in the Western Conference, and 19th in the whole NHL.
Since he has entered the NHL, David Booth has not made the playoffs with the Florida Panthers. Could his first year with a playoff contending team be a long run?
David Booth, 26 years old, still has lots of hockey left in him and now that he is with a contending team, it is only a matter of time before we see him in his 2008-2009 state (where he had 60 points in 72 games).
In practice, he has been skating on the second line with fellow Americans, Ryan Kesler, and Chris Higgins and by having Booth on the wing, it will be a perfect with for Kesler and Higgins, seeing as he has played with both of them at some point of his career (Higgins in Florida, and Kesler in the World Junio...
It was ugly. Dear God, was it ever ugly. In the end, however, the Canucks twice came back from two goals down and topped the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 on the road.
Chris Higgins, Cody Hodgson and Alex Burrows all scored for the Canucks, who got their first win of the season. The powerplay, woeful in their season opener, was better tonight, going 1 for 4. Christian Ehrhoff's absence is indeed obvious. First, though, Let's get to the game.
In the first period, Columbus came out firing, chasing the Canucks all around the rink, and scoring the games first goal. It came after a weak Keith Ballard clearing attempt that was intercepted by Derek Mckenzie. He fed the puck in fr...
