Isles Look For Their First Win In Brooklyn

The New York Islanders will take to the ice for the second time tonight at the Barclays Center, looking to achieve their first win on Brooklyn ice.

Although it is only a preseason contest, a win at the Barclays Center over a division rival will bode well for fans as well as management, considering whom the Isles have dressed tonight.

The New York Islanders announced this morning this morning that they will be hosting their annual Blue & White Prospects Scrimmage on July 10th at Nassau Coliseum. In addition to the scrimmage and skills competition, fans will have an opportunity to obtain autographs from the participants as well.

Regardless of their unexpected success taking them into the playoffs last year, there were many areas that the Islanders needed to improve coming into the current season. The core of the team was established, but among many other things the defensive corps was a major concern and the departure of captain Mark Streit only made things worse.

3/29/14 Pregame: Islanders Host New Jersey

The New York Islanders return home to the Nassau Coliseum for a 7p.m. puck drop Saturday to take on their longtime rival the New Jersey Devils. This will be the fourth of five meetings between the two this year. Islanders Host Blue Jackets in Sunday Matinee

The Islanders look to finish up their homestand Sunday afternoon on a high note as they take on their Metropolitan rival Columbus Blue Jackets 1pm at the Nassau Coliseum. It will be the third of four matchups as Columbus has taken the first two, including the Islanders’ home opener. In what was a sign for things to come, the Islanders blew a 2-0 third period lead before falling to Columbus in the shootout 3-2. Pregame 3/18/14: Wild at Islanders

The Minnesota Wild visit the New York Islanders tonight in their second and final meeting of the season. The game will feature the first game back on Lon Island for former Islanders Matt Moulson and Nino Niederreiter. Puck drop is 7:00pm EST.

Getting To Know The New New York Islanders

The next day, the Isles acquired Sebastian Collberg from Montreal in the much debated Thomas Vanek trade. A lot of Isles fans are down on Collberg, a bi-product of being included in the deal, but Collberg is an interesting prospect.
Collberg, who currently plays for Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League, is a high risk high reward prospect. Hockey’s Future has him rated with the same grade as high end Isles prospect Ryan Strome. While Collberg might have Strome’s upside, he might flounder as well.

Standing in their way are the Buffalo Sabres whose 46 points (19-39-8 record) have it comfortably “ahead” of the 29th place Edmonton Oilers in the race for worst record overall in the NHL and coveted top position in June’s draft lottery.
