Hawks welcome back Versteeg in trade with Panthers

Last night, the Hawks turned heads by welcoming back Kris Versteeg from the Florida Panthers along with prospect Phillipe Lefebrve in exchange for forward Jimmy Hayes and defenseman Dylan Olsen.

Versteeg, a fan favorite, played a key role on the Hawk’s 2010 championship winning team, and was then a victim of the subsequent roster turnover due to the cap crunch that sent him to Toronto for former Hawk Viktor Stalberg. Florida Panthers and New Jersey Devils open their series in Sunrise tonight

April 13th carries a lot of history for Kevin Dineen, coach of the Florida Panthers. It was on this day in 1997 that he scored the last goal in Hartford Whalers history. A good goal it was, too - the game-winner in a 2-1 game vs the Tampa Bay Lightning. Dineen, who was captain of the team, also became the first captain of the Carolina Hurricanes, and he scored the first goal for the 'Canes. By the time training camp opened, half the roster had been turned over, and the team was being led by a first-year NHL coach.

Most people thought the Panthers would be lucky if they could claw themselves a few spots h...

It kicks off with the first of two season games against the Florida Panthers (the second will be on United Center ice in late January), followed by a game at Tampa Bay, then it's back home for the first matchup of the season against the Vancouver Canucks.

In light of the trade moves made by Chicago and the free agency signings by Florida this summer, Thurday's Blackhawks-Panthers matchup in Sunrise is a game that many fans on both sides of the ice ...
