Game Preview: Isles v. Rangers

After sweeping the Hurricanes over the weekend the Isles look ahead to tonight where they face off at MSG against Rangers who are trying to avoid losing 3 in a row.

Though the Isles came out of the weekend victorious, I am sure the staff and players know that there are plenty of problems that still need to be addressed before this team can really make a run.

Isles Defeat The Hurricanes 4-3 In The Last Home Opener At Nassau Coliseum

Entering Nassau Coliseum tonight was very different than every other season; there was a vibe circulating around the concourse that was unlike the previous years. Tonight’s home opener marked the beginning of the end for the 43-year old Nassau Coliseum, the only building that the Islanders have ever called home.

The game opened up with a raucous crowd welcoming back the orange and blue to the ice. Unlike previous years, the Islanders came out all at once and stood around the logo at center ice as opposed to one by one, signifying that this year is all about the team and what it has meant to Long Island since 1972.

Islanders Topple Hurricanes 5-3 to Open Season

After a summer of new acquisitions throughout the lineup, it was second-year player Brock Nelson who delivered the biggest moments for the Islanders in their 5-3 opening night victory in Carolina.

Should Joshua Ho-Sang be on the 2014-15 Isles?

The New York Islanders were able to pull arguably the biggest steal in the 2014 NHL Draft. They took Joshua Ho-Sang with the 28th overall pick. His talent is heralded and lauded unanimously throughout the ranks of hockey scouts but the jury is still out on ‘character’ issues.(Credit: Flickr/5of7)

Most teams decided that the inevitable headache waiting with his brash nature far outweighed his skill level.

For the Islanders, this was the perfect pick. A damaged draft stock with a player that felt beyond offended that he was passed up on created an immediate bond between a rejected franchise and rejected prospect.

This perceived disrespect from other teams will create a love for the Islanders logo on his jersey. Reason being, they were the only ones that gave him a chance.

Isles Look For Their First Win In Brooklyn

The New York Islanders will take to the ice for the second time tonight at the Barclays Center, looking to achieve their first win on Brooklyn ice.

Although it is only a preseason contest, a win at the Barclays Center over a division rival will bode well for fans as well as management, considering whom the Isles have dressed tonight.

Filling The Gap On The Top Line

As of now, the New York Islanders do not have a forward that is undeniably the top line winger to play alongside of Kyle Okposo and John Tavares. Last year, the Islanders started the season with Matt Moulson on JT’s wing, who was soon exchanged for Thomas Vanek.

Both Moulson and Vanek fit perfectly on the top line. But with Moulson staying in Buffalo and Vanek currently preparing to wear a Minnesota Wild jersey in 2015, the top spot is once again vacated.

TCL Isles Round Table Discussion: The Islanders 1st Round 5th Overall Pick

The NHL offseason is officially underway for the New York Islanders. The focus now shifts to the NHL entry draft and I've summoned some of the TCL Isles staff to weigh in on what the Islanders should do with this year’s selection.

The Summer of Snow

The summer of Snow is upon us. For better or worse, the fate of the New York Islanders rests in the hands of General Manager Garth Snow over the next three months. His goal is simple even if the process is complicated: put the finishes touches on a “rebuild” started six summers ago and create a sustained contender for the last season at the Nassau Coliseum and the future of Brooklyn. Is trading for Evander Kane worth the headache?

With the draft approaching, the Islanders could be looking to flip their 5th overall pick to another team for a proven commodity.

Evander Kane has been swirling around the rumor mill. Recent history has not been kind to the relationship between the Winnipeg Jets and Evander Kane. The last we heard about Kane and where he thinks he will be for the foreseeable future was back in April when Kane was a healthy scratch in Toronto.

What is a player of his talent doing being a healthy scratch?

Moulson and Vanek Are Not The Answer

Heading into the Islanders' final season at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, they have many holes to fill, but an over paid winger that doesn't play both ways is not something they should be in the market for.
