It is said as a general rule that the first goal after a 2-0 lead is the most crucial. Jakub Voracek's monumental late first period goal sparked a comeback resulting in a 4-2 Flyers win over the New York Rangers. As a result, the series is tied at one apiece heading into game three.
As had been the largest story coming into this series, the Flyers snapped a nine-game losing streak at Madison Square Garden in comeback fashion.
Luke Schenn capped off the furious comeback by tapping home a rebound past a sprawled Henrik Lundqvist halfway through the second period. On a delayed penalty, Adam Hall collected a Michael Raffl pass and shoveled a shot on goal that popped right on Schenn's stick. No Ranger would score after that goal was scored.
Are the Islanders finally better than the Rangers? It has taken years to ask that question and not be mocked for sheer insanity or stupidity. With the resurgence of the Isles’ play and unexpected rise up the Eastern Conference standings, fans of the Islanders would answer with a resounding yes.
Supporters of the contrary would argue the results of the 2013 season series between the heated rivals. The Rangers bested the Islanders 3 out of 4 times. Aside from the first meeting of February 7th, where the lifeless Isles were drubbed 4-1 at MSG, each game has been close.
The games were so close that, in reality each contest could have went to either side. Who could forget Saturday’s epic battle that saw the Isles fall in overtime? Fans of the orange and blue wanted to blame the referees but after the loss settled, it became evident that they just had a better goaltender. Henrik Lundqvist, when on, is the best goalie in the NHL.

Mike Milbury is a name that has stained the heart of almost every Islanders fan; he drafted well, but traded away almost everyone that had potential, allowing those on the Island to watch their young draft picks develop into stars on other teams around the league. Such names include Todd Bertuzzi, Darius Kasparitis, Roberto Luongo and Zigmund Palffy. Most of his trades were questionable at best, the contracts he offered were often mind boggling, and he is heralded by Isles fans as possibly the worst General Manager in NHL history.
But despite that hefty resume of accusations, Mike Milbury currently has an even bigger one on his hands.
According to TSN, Milbury has been accused of assault and battery on a twelve-year old involving an altercation during a pee-wee hockey game.
I originally lived in Brooklyn, NY, which for those of you outside of New York is not very far from New York City, Madison Square Garden and the New York Rangers. I lived in Brooklyn as a kid for most of the 90's but couldn't tell you a damn thing about hockey. My closest friend and his father were die hard Rangers fans so every now and then I used to see a game on TV, especially when they were in the playoffs. But still, I couldn't say I knew much. Only when I went to my friends house would I pick up a plastic stick and fool around with a ball in his driveway, but other than that, the game of hockey was a complete unknown.
I moved to Long Island with my family in 1996. ...
