Analyzing The Thomas Vanek Trade

As announced yesterday, Thomas Vanek was dealt to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for prospect forward Sebastian Collberg. A conditional second round pick will be sent to the New York Islanders in addition to Collberg if the Habs make the playoffs, with a conditional fifth round pick then being sent to the Canadiens. However, if Montreal fails to make the playoffs, the trade stands as just a single player swap (Photo credit: Michael Cummo Photography/Flickr).

Jackets Rout Flyers in Columbus

Late in the second, Umberger put the Blue Jackets up, 2-0. At that point it was appearing the Flyers were rolling over to Columbus.

Then the same burst of life from Thursday appeared just minutes after Umberger's goal. Wayne Simmonds and Sean Couturier scored 20 second apart to instantly tie the game up, 2-2.

The two teams headed into the third period locked up, but a complete defensive breakdown in the third ended any chance the Flyers had at a win.

Columbus' Day: Isles Fall to Lowly Jackets

It has been a long week for the New York Islanders. The early season road trip has been an absolute disaster for the Isles and dropping a 5-2 decision to the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday continued the misery. Columbus came into the game losers of five straight, but clearly was a team that just wanted it more last night as they did something that has been the bugaboo of the Isles all season; they played the full 60 minutes.

The Preds come into town for the second game of a back-to-back after losing 7-4 to the Canucks last night in Vancouver.

Lundqvist, Rangers Foil Flyers

NEW YORK -- It was too little too late for the Flyers.

The Rangers and Henrik Lundqvist staved off a resurgent Flyers team, holding on to win 2-1 in a wild game at Madison Square Garden. The score reflected their first meeting last Thursday, this time with a different result.

The Flyers were flat from the opening face off. The Rangers controlled the puck and the flow, keeping the action in the Flyers half of the ice.
