The Flames will look for their sixth straight win at the Dome tonight when they host the Nashville Predators. The Flames are coming off a huge third period against the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday that saw them score three goals on their way to a 5-2 victory. The Preds come into town for the second game of a back-to-back after losing 7-4 to the Canucks last night in Vancouver.

Isles Drop Third Straight Game To The Rangers

The New York Islanders visited their cross-town rivals, the New York Rangers, last night for the first time this season. Despite out shooting the Rangers 28-25, the Isles came up short for their third loss in a row and were defeated 4-1 at Madison Square Garden. (Photo Credit: JR_in_NYC/flickr)

Lundqvist, Rangers Foil Flyers

NEW YORK -- It was too little too late for the Flyers.

The Rangers and Henrik Lundqvist staved off a resurgent Flyers team, holding on to win 2-1 in a wild game at Madison Square Garden. The score reflected their first meeting last Thursday, this time with a different result.

The Flyers were flat from the opening face off. The Rangers controlled the puck and the flow, keeping the action in the Flyers half of the ice.

5-on-3 PK Left Fans, Players In Awe

One of the many highlights from Thursday's thrilling 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers was a penalty kill in the third period.

No, you didn't read that wrong. The Flyers killing of a 5-on-3 power play that included a four-minute double minor for high sticking and a two-minute penalty for hooking turned out to be the ultimate seal of Philadelphia's first victory of the 2013 season.

2013 NHL Eastern Conference Power Rankings

The 2013 NHL season is no longer an 82 game marathon, but instead is a 48 game dash to the finish line.

Will teams that had multiple players skating in Europe fair better? Will veteran squads win because they will have fresh legs all season long? Only the next few months will tell.

Here are my Eastern Conference power rankings.

1. Pittsburgh Penguins – A healthyEvgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby will lead Pittsburgh deep into the Stanley Cup playoffs. The addition of veteran goalie Tomas Vokoun gives Coach Dan Bylsma a solid option if Marc-Andre Fleury falters.

2. New York Rangers – With the ...

The Minnesota Wild's Summer

As the summer draws to a close so too does the Minnesota Wild’s most exciting offseason in history. In addition to the well publicized Zach Parise, Ryan Suter Fourth of July signings, the Wild added needed depth in forwards Zenon Konopka and Torrey Mitchell. They also re-signed steady backup net minder Josh Harding to below market value.

The result has been a boost of optimism for a club that so desperately needed it.

All parties involved-ownership, management, players, and fans- watched as the team slowly came down from the high of a promising start for their franchise. In the Wild’s first ten seasons, they qualified for the postseason three times, won a divi...
