Hawks snatch one from Calgary in 3-2 shootout win

The Blackhawks came out of Calgary with a win that they had no business winning but isn’t that what great teams do? They literally snatched a win for what certainly should have been defeat. While they were doing that, back in Chicago and Blackhawks fans everywhere were going through just about as many heart palpations as Ray Emery had logic defying moves.

The Blackhawks came into the Saddledome road weary with having played in Vancouver just 24 hours earlier to face a rested and motivated Calgary Flames. Luckily for the Blackhawks they packed their Ray Bans because it was Ray Emery banning almost everything from the Hawks net.

Blackhawks come up short in SO 2-1

In what was an unusually calm Blackhawks/Canucks tilt, the Blackhawks despite not playing their best still collected a point on the road. Even the Rogers arena crowd seemed pretty subdued except for when Duncan Keith had the puck and a chorus of boos echoed the building.

There were not any incidents, fights or really even any confrontations. Both teams seemed really focused on just picking up points and collecting a win.

For as much as we would like to send Roberto Luongo into stages of self doubt and lost confidence he played brilliantly against the Hawks big guns particularly in the shoot out.

The Hawks never really were able to sustain much pressure on hi...

Blackhawks Refuse to Lose; Topple Red Wings 2-1 in OT

The Chicago Blackhawks continued their winning streak last night by way of a 2-1 overtime victory against their Central Division rival Detroit Red Wings to move to 6-0-0 on the season, their best start in franchise history. Not too bad. The winning tally came just over halfway through the extra period, when a Detroit turnover in the Chicago defensive zone led to a deep outlet pass to Hawks winger Viktor Stalberg. Stalberg carried the puck into the offensive zone and hit Nick Leddy with a cross-ice pass that the Chicago defenseman promptly buried over Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard's left pad to send the United Center crowd of over 21,600 to their homes in a most...

Blackhawks rally past Stars; remain undefeated

Marian Hossa scored his fifth goal of the season in the form of an overtime game-winner as the Chicago Blackhawks rallied from two goals down to defeat the Dallas Stars 3-2 on Thursday night. Hossa’s goal came on Chicago’s seventh power play of the night off a beautiful behind-the-back backhand feed from Patrick Kane, pushing the team’s record to a league-best 4-0-0.

For a while it looked as though Chicago might not be able to solve Dallas net-minder Kari Lehtonen, as the Finnish-born former Thrasher frustrated one attempt after another from the Blackhawks as they outshot the Stars 12-6 in the first period to no avail.

Compounding matters was Dal...

Blackhawks open the season 2-0-0 for the first time since 1996

Two nights, two wins, two banner-raising nights deflated, in two road games to open the season.

Not a bad start for Chicago. The Blackhawks haven't started a season 2-0-0 since 1996.

The men of four feathers rolled into Phoenix on Sunday after a decisive 5-2 win at LA, and looked to -- if not avenge last spring's playoffs, at least make up for them.

Last April, the PHX-CHI series was one of the tightest in recent Cup history. The first five games all went to overtime before the Coyotes blew the Hawks out of a deeper Cup run with a 4-0 win on Chicago ice. At the United Center for game 3, Coyote Raffi Torres took out Marian Hossa with an ugly headsho...

Chicago Blackhawks dethrone the LA Kings in opener

Cup hangover for the Kings? No - the time spent in the lockout eliminated that possibility for the Kings.

So perhaps it was simply the huge anticipation and emotional output that a team faces, raising a Stanley Cup banner to the rafters.

Two years ago, the Chicago Blackhawks stood in the Kings' shoes - except for the Blackhawks, the emotion of the moment was all the more poignant due to massive summer roster turnover. The Kings had almost none, beyond a player being traded this past week, and one of their assistant coaches who is now standing behind the bench for their Opening Night opponents.

The Hawks have been there, and were able to channel that kn...

TCL Blackhawks writers make their 2013 season predictions

As the season is about to begin, the TCL team of Blackhawks writers give their predictions for the abbreviated (2012-) 2013 season. (Writers are listed alphabetically.)

CHERYL ADAMS (@HockeyBroad)

Central division will finish: 1) Blues, 2) Blackhawks, 3) Nashville, 4) Detroit, 5) Columbus

This is going to be an interesting year in the Central. The Blues have proven persistent and should look to repeat from last year. It's a tough call between the Preds and the Red Wins, but the Preds are hungrier for the Cup and will look to prove themselves after finally breaking into the second round. It's a rebuilding year for the Wings after losing their ...
