Two Habs Showdowns to reveal Caps ability, for better or worse

The Washington Capitals will play the Montreal Canadiens twice in the span of 11 days in April. Both of the games are in Montreal.

This is the kind of thing that happens when your season schedule gets thrown together. Like they'd say in Montreal, c'est la vie.

But, if anything, the games should be a good measure of how far the Caps have come this season.

Any time the team goes 8-1-1 is good, but check those last 10 games out. There aren't many playoff teams in that stretch.

That begs the question--how good are these Caps, really?

It's fair to say they're neither the team that started 2-8-1, nor are they a team that could maintai...

Preview:

Fresh off a 4-2 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets the Kings (3-3-2; 8 points) continue their road trip in Nashville against the Predators (4-2-3; 11 points) tonight at 5. Wings ride momentum into Nashville

Friday's game against the Los Angeles Kings was a breath of fresh air for Wings fans.

After the third period heroics of Darren Helm and Joey MacDonald, the Wings were able to comeback after trailing the Kings. With no signs of Niklas Lidstrom, Pavel Datsyuk, Jimmy Howard, Jonathan Ericsson or Todd Bertuzzi, it was quite the relief.

What type of contest will the Wings have on their hands tonight in Nashville? Not an easy one.

It can't be said enough that the Wings road performance has left much to be desired this season. So upon looking at who tonight's possible impact player might be, Henrik Zetterberg should be acknowledged first. With Datsyuk out, he has de...

Islanders Look To Avoid Capital Punishment - Isles/Caps Pre-Game

Somebody had a case of the Mondays.

The New York Islanders, at least, will have a quick turnaround after one of their worst performance’s of the season. After a dismal 3-1 loss to the Nashville Predators, the
Islanders travel to the nation’s capital to play the red hot Washington Capitals.

Washington, winners of seven straight at the Verizon Center, come into the contest off a 2-1 home victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. They haven’t trailed in a game at home since December 13th. In 22 games since Bruce Boudreau was replaced by Dale Hunter, the Capitals have gone 12-9-1 playing themselves into a 1st place tie with the Florida Panthers in the Southeast Division.

Game Day: Phoenix Coyotes @ Nashville Predators

In what will be their last game before the much-awaited home opener against the Winnipeg Jets, the Phoenix Coyotes will first look to rebound from a 2-1 shootout loss in Dallas that saw them open the scoring in the third period before Loui Eriksson tied things up with under 30 seconds remaining in regulation.  Despite this, the Coyotes looked much stronger than their first outing against San Jose and managed to outshoot their opponents 41-25.

Nashville won't be an easy opponent, as the young but feisty Predators remain undefeated thanks to their goaltender, Pekka Rinne, who has allowed but four goals in both his team's wins.  Their p...
