Game Preview: Flames vs Colorado Avalanche

It is the battle of the basement dwellers tonight at the Dome with the 14th place Flames playing host to the 15th place Colorado Avalanche. The Flames enter tonight’s game coming off a 2-0 loss to the Blackhawks last night in Chicago. The Avalanche on the other hand, come into Calgary on two days’ rest, not having played since Sunday when they went down to defeat to the Vancouver Canucks, 3-2.

Blackhawks Bring Down the Avalanche

CHI v COL - Post Game Recap3/6/13 Chicago brings down the Avalanche 3-2 at home.  Chicago fans were a bit confused to hear Dan Carcillo announced as the starting right wing for the Blackhawks on Wednesday night's matchup against apparent rival the Colorado Avalanche, but his game winning goal with 49 seconds left in regulation and joyous celly made the UC crowd go crazy.  The Chicago Blackhawks, now 21-0-3 have three, yes three, historic streaks following them through their unstoppable season. The Hawks are through 24 without a regulation loss for the longest opening streak in NHL history, they have a franchise record streak of 11 consecutive wins, a...

Where Are They Now? A Look Back At The Islanders' 2009 Draft

The Isles went with Tavares and it certainly is looking like the right choice. He is one of the hardest working players in the National Hockey League and he is super competitive. He leads by example and makes those around him better.

But what about the rest of the 2009 draft?

Let's take a look at that draft and see where they are now.

Game Preview: Flames vs Colorado Avalanche

The Flames head into Colorado tonight to face an Avalanche team that has seen five of their seven wins come on home ice at the Pepsi Center (5-2-1). This will be the second meeting between the clubs this season, with the Aves beating the Flames 6-3 on January 31st at the Dome. It was the Aves third straight victory over the Flames as they will look to make it four tonight.

Game Preview: Kings vs. Avalanche

Preview:

The Kings (7-6-2; 16 points) host the Avalanche (7-7-1; 15 points) today at 1. Capturing two wins in their back-to-back games in Canada the Kings return to the Staples Center where they will play 13 of their next 16 games. A slow start to the season landed the Kings in the basement of the Pacific division one point behind Dallas. Despite their positioning Los Angeles has played more consistently and is poised to make a run. The Avalanche beat the Predators and Blues in their last two games and have Gabriel Landeskog returning. Landeskog scored the game-winning goal in the third period when the Kings lost to the Avalanche, 3-1 in Colorado.

Rating the Islanders NHL 2013 Ratings

With all the talk about a possible lockout which could result in a shorten or even a cancelled season, there is one guarantee for the hockey season and that is the release of one of the best video games ever; NHL 2013.

Earlier this month the NHL 2013 ratings were leaked to Yahoo! Sports writer, Puck Daddy and he separated them into two posts, one being the Eastern Conference teams and the other for, you guessed it, the Western Conference teams.

Anyone who has played "NHL" knows how realistic the game can be. When looking at the ratings for the Islanders, there were some questionable choices made by EA Sports, but there were also some spot on ones. Let’s take a look at the ratings for the whole Islanders team.(Photo Credit: Yahoo/Puck Daddy)

Ranting on the Couch with Erol Bal

Just when you think they have a chance they completely fall flat on there face and break your heart, yes boys and girls these are our New York Islanders. Here is my weekly edition on all thing Islanders related. I am sitting on the couch with my iPad and with my house under going serious renovations; that's why this is not a video edition. But that doesn't mean we can't talk Islanders hockey!

So with the Islanders playing a pre-season game in Brooklyn, is it becoming clearer that Wang is smartening up and saying "Screw Nassau County?" Or Is this the boy who cried wolf again and Charles wants to work with Nassau County and the same people who have screwed him over since 2006? I personally would love to see something happen in Queens and maybe build in the old Shea Stadium or go to Bloomberg and propose your Lighthouse idea to the Iron Triangle (Flushing section). In the end I hope that this pre-season game becomes a sell out.

With the trade deadline approaching, how fitting is it that Mark Eaton scores a game winner? That means we now get a 3rd round pick instead of a 5th rounder for him. Many teams will be scouring for a bottom 6th dman veteran with playoff experience and Garth should seriously consider trading Eaton.

Exhausted Stars fall to Avalanche

It was a crucial encounter at the American Airlines Center in Texas as the Stars welcomed the Colorado Avalanche. Just a point separated the 2 sides going into the game, both sat just outside the very tight playoff picture.

The Stars landed in Dallas on the morning of the Avs game after travelling out West to face the Ducks and the Kings, where they took 1 win away. Luckily for the Stars, Colorado’s star centre Matt Duchene, who caused a lot of problems earlier in the season, was out of the line-up.

You could tell that the Stars had landed in Dallas several hours prior to face-off as they showed poor puck control and retention, and struggled to match up to the Avs' p...

Islanders Prepare for Avalanche

“And with the first overall selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the New York Islanders are proud to select John Tavares.”

After months of speculation leading up to the 2009 NHL draft, the Islanders rewarded their fan base after a long and painful season by using the first pick to select the longtime #1 ranked player in the draft.  It has been said that when top prospects remain at the top of a draft board for a long period of time, analysts tend to search so hard for their flaws that when they finally find one, it becomes significantly over exaggerated.

So it was with Tavares, who was ranked at the top of his draft class since about age 14. ...
