Isles and Rangers Face Off at the Garden

The Islanders are heading into the Big Apple to face their archrivals, the New York Rangers. Coming off back-to-back shootout wins (courtesy of Frans Neilsen and his patented forehand-backhand-top shelf move), the young Isles team is carrying a bit of momentum into the World’s Greatest Arena. They are playing with more confidence and finding ways to win hockey games.

This is a good thing. Because they will need every ounce of momentum, confidence, skill, (and maybe even a little luck) to leave Madison Square Garden with 2 points against the Rangers in tonight’s contest.

The Rangers (with 3 games in hand) are currently tied for 2nd in the Atlantic Division with the Pittsburgh Penguins, as they each have managed 42 points so far this season.

Isles Get Star Struck, Lose 3-2 To Dallas

The Islanders inability to score with the man-advantage and stay out of the penalty box would be the story for tonight's 3-2 loss to the visiting Dallas Stars. The Isles were 0-3 on the power play, two of which came at crucial moments where they needed to tie the game. Throw in their continuous trips to the sin bin and you have yourself a recipe for a poorly played hockey game.

Islanders to NHL: "We're Still Here!"

The Islanders have currently been riding a nice point streak and it has proven to the NHL that they are not just a small obstacle in the standings anymore.

Three Out Of Four Ain't Bad- Islanders/Blackhawks Pregame

The New York Islanders haven’t had many important December games recently.

That changes tonight against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Balanced Attack Beats Tampa Bay

When the New York Islanders last welcomed the Tampa Bay Lightning to Nassau Coliseum, it took just 36 seconds for them to establish their lead and roll to a 5-1 victory.

On Tuesday night, the Islanders allowed Tampa to score first, but the result would end up exactly the same.

Al Montoya, whose fine play has been carrying the Isles of late (with his 2.17 Goals Against Average and .931 save percentage coming in to the contest) started in goal. The Islanders faced Mathieu Garon in the other end.

Though they fired the first five shots of the game, none got past Garon. When Tampa Bay was able to get their first shot on net, a blast from the stick of Brett Clark near the point, Martin St. Louis redirected it past Montoya for his 800th career NHL point.

Islanders Skate To First Road Win!

The Prudential Center was as loud as it had been the entire night. The New Jersey Devils just tied the game at 3 with 2 seconds remaining in regulation.

Or did they?

After a league review in Toronto, it was determined that Zach Parise’s skate directed the puck into the net and the goal was overturned.

Still Without Power On The Island; Isles Lose 1-0 To Devils

The New York Islanders went into today's game against the New Jersey Devils hoping to make-up for their overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers but came up short, losing 1-0 to another division rival.

It was the sixth time this season that the Islanders have been shutout, a glaring reason why this team has struggled to win hockey games.

"Obviously we didn't score. If you don't score you're not going to win a hockey game," said Islanders captain Mark Streit to me after the game. "We had chances, faced a pretty good goalie, had chances on the PP, we just didn't score but I still think there's a lot of good things we did.I thought tha...

Where Have The Isles Gone?

Before I begin to talk about the current state of the New York Islanders, I have to ask where this team that is portrayed in this YouTube clip (courtesy of user bufmemaud) has gone?

"We saw it last year, I saw it. I saw the energy and the desperation in our game last year. The second half, we had the best record in the National Hockey League after the All-Star break. We were physical. We were tough to play against."

Their Worst Game Of The Season, Isles Lose 6-0 To The Bruins

"When you play this game you need to play with fire, you need to play with passion, you need to play with determination, you need to play with desperation. You need to have ice bags after the game, maybe a little blood dripping right now. When you lace your skates up the guy across from you, the guy on the right, on the left of you need to know that you got their back and we're going to play for one another. And that just didn't happen tonight and I don't have the answers why."

This is how head coach Jack Capuano started his post-game press conference after a humiliating 6-0 loss to the Boston Bruins. Fired up and with his blood boiling, Capuano came out like a...

Islanders End Slide, Defeat Canadiens

The Islanders scored four goals in the second period and held off some late game pressure and defeated the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 4-3.   Rick DiPietro got the win in relief of Evgeni Nabokov, who left the ice just 7:55 into the first period due to an apparent lower body injury.  Nabokov is said to have a hamstring issue, and will be evaluated today.

The first shot against DiPietro came on a power play, and as has been the Islanders luck so far this season, the shot beat him.  However, in a new turn of events for the Islanders and their luck, this time the post was there to back DiPietro up, and the Islanders killed off the power play unscathed.
