Isles Look for Encore from Fans; Different Result in Game 4

While the Nassau Coliseum walls recover from the verbal beat down the Isles’ faithful gave it on Sunday afternoon, the Islanders look for ways to recover from a gut wrenching loss to even the series. The orange and blue faithful came out in a loud way to welcome their home town team back into the playoffs. It was the first playoff game housed in Nassau since 2007.

They will take the ice at 7:00 in Uniondale, New York. The fans will look to rock the old Barn again.

Isles Show Heart In Game Three But Fall To Pens In Overtime

The New York Islanders were hosting a playoff game on Nassau Coliseum ice for the first time in six years in front of a sold out crowd that was salivating for the puck to finally drop. Unfortunately for the Isles, they fell to the Penguins in overtime by a score of 5-4 on a power play goal that came from forward Chris Kunitz just 8:44 into the extra frame.

Special teams would ultimately play the deciding factor in the game, as the Islanders penalty kill only went 2-5, surrendering two additional power play goals in the first period that allowed the Penguins to get into the hockey game.

The Isles came out of the gates with energy and intensity, racking up hits, shots and goals immediately. Within the first two minutes of the game, Matt Moulson would slam home a rebound after Kyle Okposo would get the first few initial chances. Lubomir Visnovsky would be credited with the second assist.

Kyle Okposo Sets The Tone For The Isles In Game Two

Fighting has been, and will continue to be a controversial topic of discussion for as long as it is in the game of hockey. There are those who are against it, and those who are in support of it (Photo Credit: bridgetds/Flickr).

There are those who enjoy seeing a good'ol scrap just for the fun. You know, the ones who say they went to a fight and suddenly a hockey game broke out.

But there are others who understand the role a fight can play in waking up a team; it's ability to provide a spark on the bench that can contribute to better defense, stronger goaltending and ultimately goals that can win hockey games.

That's exactly what Kyle Okposo provided last night.

Isles Rally In Pittsburgh To Even The Series 1-1

After being dismally shutout 5-0 in Pittsburgh for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarter Finals, the Islanders were headed in the same frightening direction last night during the first period of Game 2. The return of Sidney Crosby once again beset the Islanders after he scored his second goal of game to give the Pens a 3-1 lead after a period.

But a rejuvenated Isles team would show up the in the next frame and eventually shock the Penguins, in addition to just about everybody watching. The Islanders outplayed Pittsburgh for the rest of the game and scored three unanswered goals to even the series at 1-1. (Photo Credit: T.J. Corona/Flickr)

Islanders Come to Town For Flyers Final Home Game

This is the final home game for the Flyers. They can give their fans something to cheer about all while preventing the Islanders of a good playoff seeding at the same time.

Isles' Clinch is Extra Sweet for Long Suffering Fans

With the Islanders down a goal late in the 3rd at Carolina, it seemed like the clinching party would have to be put on hold. That all changed when John Tavares slid a puck to the front of the net that somehow wound up crossing the line. It would seem like some sort of supernatural force is driving them to be this lucky.

But what we are realizing collectively with each passing game is that for too long we have been mistaking lucky for good. This Islanders team is talented, driven and gritty. They are playing hockey the right way and making a starving fan base proud on a nightly basis.

With the Islanders losing in a shoot-out, they picked up a valuable point that made clinching possible. For all hockey fans with access to the out of market games, they all turned their attention to the action in the nation’s capital. The Capitals were clinging to a one goal lead when Winnipeg pulled Pavelec to bring on an extra man. As the seconds dripped off the clock for what seemed like hours, the Caps connected with an empty netter which sealed the Islanders’ fate.

They are playoff bound for the first time in 7 years.

Isles Fall In OT, Still Manage To Earn Playoff Glory

The New York Islanders season-ending five game road trip continued last night in Raleigh as the team fell to the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 in the shootout.

The importance of the loss being in the shootout was that, in conjunction with the Winnipeg Jets regulation loss, the Isles earned their first playoff appearance since 2007. Had the Islanders lost in regulation, there would have been no clinch.

In essence, the Isles played just well enough.

Game Preview: New York Islanders vs. Carolina Hurricanes

Raleigh, NC -- the New York Islanders haven’t beaten the Carolina Hurricanes in two previous meetings this season, but are hoping the third time is the charm tonight. The Isles will take a 14-5-2 road record into PNC Arena in search of their first victory against the franchise formerly known as the Hartford Whalers.

The Hurricanes are the only Eastern Conference team that the Islanders have yet to defeat during this truncated 2013 NHL season.

New York Islanders at Winnipeg Jets – Can Isles “Clinch?”

The Isles are currently 23-16-5 (51 points) and are sitting in 7th in the NHL’s Eastern Conference and can all but clinch a postseason berth with a regulation win today. While two points wouldn’t technically ensure a playoff spot for the Islanders, it would put them in perfect position to make the NHL’s “second season.”

New York is on a 7-0-2 run since Apr. 1 and is 10-1-2 in its last 13 games, a run that is making the rest of the league take note.
