Hartnell's Hat Trick, Three-Point Nights for Giroux, Voracek Lead Flyers

The Flyers offense woke up in a big way, but it may have been little too late.

With playoffs well out of reach, the Flyers exploded out of their four-game losing skid and scoring funk to beat the Canadiens, 7-3, Monday night.

The Flyers have had a problem with scoring lately but they shook that off early. Just over two minutes into the game, Wayne Simmonds created a scoring chance to put the Flyers up 1-0.

Simmonds followed his own rebound with another shot on net. The puck was then deflected in off the stick of Sean Couturier to get past Carey Price to put the Flyers on the board first.

Flyers Out-Shot and Out-Played In Loss to Habs

With Carey Price out with the flu and a struggling Peter Budaj in net for the Canadiens, all the Flyers had to do was put shots on net and get pressure on the back-up netminder.

They did neither of that, and frankly, that is why they dropped their ninth regulation loss of the season.

In what was one of the most miserable outings of the 2013 season, the Flyers looked like a lost team.

Hartnell’s Eventual Return Creates Interesting Decision: Who to Sit?

Scott Hartnell’s return to the Flyers lineup is inevitable.

Certainly it’s going to be a huge bonus getting back the team’s leader in goals scored last season with _. But a bit of a dilemma will hit head coach Peter Laviolette when his star left-winger does return.

Unfortunately for the Flyers, the guys for them who are playing their best hockey are the guys who aren’t doing the scoring. And those who need to step their game up and perform better are those relied upon to put the puck in the back of the net.

Analyzing the Canadiens' Changes and Chances

The Montreal Canadiens have historically been the flagship franchise of the National Hockey League. Over the years the Canadiens have amassed a record 24 Stanley Cups, and those responsible for all those Championships have been rightfully honoured - you can find the names of 61 people associated with the club in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Despite all of that success over the years, somewhere along the line that tradition of winning went away. While the prospect of adding number 25 excited many of the Habs faithful in 2010, the fact remains that “Les Glorieux” haven't been able to win it all in two decades. In an attempt to change that, the Canadien...

Canadiens Well Represented in Europe

National Hockey League fans may still be waiting patiently for the return of NHL action to their television sets, but as the lockout drags on there is still hockey being played around the globe. Some of the leagues premier players have made the move overseas to find a new place to play during the work stoppage, and those who wear the 'bleu, blanc, et rouge' of the Montreal Canadiens are no different. With Habs players in many leagues, ranging from the Swiss National League to the Czech Extraliga, it can be hard to keep up with how they're performing. The seasons have only just gotten underway, but lets take a closer look at the Habs who are overseas,...

Habs This Week: Flip Flop

Mother Nature had her way with just about everyone this past week, amping up the temperatures to trick everyone into thinking they were in mid-playoff form. Unfortunately, this was the week that the Canadiens discovered (for real) that there is no chance of that for them this year.

Shut Out: Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

Cody Hodgson scored his first goal as a Buffalo Sabre and added another in the third period to procure the Sabres a win, Tuesday, against the Canadiens.

The Sabres once were where the Canadiens are, and are now where they usually tend to be at this time of year, fighting for a playo...

Habs This Week: Positivity Reigns Despite...Y'Know

Despite being dead last in the Eastern Conference and going 3-6-1 in their last 10,  the Montreal Canadiens just completed a roadtrip that saw them earn 5 out of a possible 8 points. One could even say they've opened up and started to (dare I say it?) have fun with one month left to go in the regular season, now that less pressure is weighed on their shoulders.

The Calgary Flames outscored the Canadiens 4-2 through the first two periods, and Curtis Glencross added an unassisted marker to start the third, but the momentum switched over quickly as Lars Eller and Max Pacioretty each...

Will the changes be worth waiting for?

So it's been quite a year right?

Trades, injuries, frustration.... it's had it all. This season has been up and down on several levels.

Whether you are completely disappointed with the season and/or missing the playoffs or if you count yourself among those who are happy to be in rebuilding mode (once again), the reality is here. It's time to change and the debate is over.

At trade deadline day and for the couple of weeks leading up to it, the Canadiens were in "seller" mode. The first moves towards a busy off season.

One of the "big" topics of discussion about the Habs for the last couple of years has been their size. And histo...

Canadiens Fall to the Devils

New Jersey Devils 3 - 1 Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens played host to the New Jersey Devils on Sunday night, in a game in which the Canadiens would drop a very important two points. Despite a great effort in the third from the Canadiens, the Devils were able to hold them off and win the game by a score of 3-1. For the Devils these two points mean that much more security in their playoff spit (they currently sit 6th in the East), but for the Canadiens dropping the two points meant the difference between being just four points out of eighth, and remaining stuck in eleventh.

Game Day: Canadiens @ Maple Leafs

The Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs will once again do battle tonight, this time on the night that Mats Sundin's jersey number goes to the rafters of the Air Canada Centre. These two teams have been in different places all season, with the Maple Leafs fighting for a playoff spot and the Canadiens struggling to even come close. This is a welcome change, of course, for Maple Leafs fans, for which the situation is usually flipped, but for Habs fans, it's an unusual and painful experience.

Tonight the oldest and most historic rivalry in the NHL is reborn, and both teams d...
