It is a pretty frustrating time to be a Dallas Stars fan at the moment. A few weeks ago, things were looking bright as the Stars sat on top of the Pacific division for a while and a playoff spot looked highly likely. However, they finished the 2011/12 season with 5 losses, resulting in no playoff hockey for 3 straight seasons.

I can’t help but feel that it is time for a bit of change in Dallas. Brenden Morrow has done great things for the franchise, but this season has showed why his NHL career is coming to an end. The Red Wings can downplay it all they want, but last night was one for the ages.

The Wings did, what nobody has been able to accomplish in NHL, win 21 consecutive games on home ice.

"We're thrilled this has happened for our team," coach Mike Babcock said. "I think it's really good for our logo, it's really good for our ownership, our team. I'm proud of the guys. They've worked hard and now let's get on with it."

With Jamie Benn being the lone representative of the Stars at the all-star game in Ottawa, the rest of the team enjoyed a much-needed break. The week off allowed the Stars to shake off all of the injuries that they had, meaning they went into the game against their divisional rivals with a full strength team.

The Ducks produced a convincing 4-1 victory over the Coyotes on Tuesday night as they looked to continue their great form of late by beating a fresh Stars team. The first few minutes of the game turned out to be all about the Stars, as some awesome puck movement allowed some great chances at goal, with Benn coming agonisingly close a few minutes in.

The Detroit Red Wings made history last night as they set a new franchise record for consecutive home wins, which is very telling about their performance this season.

In a dominating display of both offense and defense, the Wings have extended their win streak at the Joe to 15 games. Jimmy Howard earned his fifth shut out of the season and Pavel Datsyuk earned his 700th career point. Last night's victory does not reflect the team's lackluster road performance though.

It was all about young Canadian Jamie Benn in Texas this afternoon as he scored twice to help the Stars overcome the struggling Edmonton Oilers 4-1. Benn has hit a great run of form lately and is now seen as one of the best centres in the NHL by many. Rookie Richard Bachman got his first start in net for the Stars since Kari Lehtonen returned from injury.

After the Oilers absorbed some early pressure from the Stars on a great first shift, the opening the period turned out to be quite an even one. The Detroit Red Wings have a strange win against the Dallas Stars, a final score of 5 to 4.

First Period: As usual, the first goal came from the Wings. Zetterberg grabbed a rebound from Hudler but instead of sending it to the net again, he passed it to the open Filppula. Filppula pretty much had an open net. Red Wings were up 1 to 0. The next goal came from the same line; Hudler redirected a shot from Zetterberg into the net. The goal was looked over for review, but there was no kicking motion from Hudler’s redirect. Only 50 seconds later, the Stars’ Eriksson scored their first goal. It's the second of four meetings between the Red Wings and the Stars, who both sit in a tight Western Conference. Wings came away with a 5-2 victory at the Joe in November, but both teams are 6-4-0 in their last ten games.

Both teams perform better at home than on the road, but the Wings are working on improving in that department. They only have two losses at home in regulation, compared to six for the Stars.

With a very poor 4-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night, a lot of Stars fans weren’t expecting a lot from their game against the Bruins two days later who were on a very hot streak. With a fierce rivalry and a packed out American Airlines Center, it was set to be an awesome encounter between two good teams.

The Stars came out of the blocks very fast and played some great hockey early on and taking just three minutes to take a one goal lead as Loui Eriksson wristed one upstairs on the powerplay.
