Bailey Finally Looking Comfortable In Win Over Sens

The Islanders season has been over for awhile now, their best players have been on the shelf for weeks, and they are basically rolling out the Bridgeport Sound Tigers lineup acting as an NHL lineup day in and day out, but somehow these kids have collected points in 10 of their last 13 games over the past month.

Toews Leads Comeback Win Over Sens

The Hawks faced the Senators in the second game of a back to back trip, but the pace was far from sluggish as the two teams traded chances in a high scoring affair en route to a wild 6-5 win.  Jonathan Toews scored his 3rd career hat trick and collected an assist while Corey Crawford made 13 saves in relief of Nikolai Khabibulin after the backup netminder let in 4 goals in 22 shots.

The Hawks scored their first goal of the night on the power play off of a hard sho...

Sens Overrule The Isles With A 5-1 WIn

When it rains, it pours; that has been the mantra of the New York Islanders this weekend. Yesterday the Isles let up six goals in a loss to the Boston Bruins that mathematically eliminated themselves from playoff contention. Today, they continued their struggling ways in a 5-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators, who were without both Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson.

"It was pretty horrible on our part. They were missing two of their top players and we couldn't take advantage of it. The way we played, we didn't deserve to win, that's for sure," said Islanders captain Mark Streit after the game. He would be the only Islander to be credited with a goal tonight with a John Tavares pass going off of his skate and behind Senators net-minder Craig Anderson.

Blackhawks best Senators 2-1 with yes, solid defense and goaltending

As the Hawks try and make a run to stay in the playoff hunt in the Western Conference, potentially a new team has emerged. With injuries to key players and a necessity to change the course this team was headed on a new Blackhawks team has arisen like a Phoenix from the ashes.

This new team has a different look and a mixture of experience sprinkled in with raw youthful vigor, finesse seasoned with bit of grit. The one thing that remains constant is the teams speed. I’m not sure if this new team should be called the Ice Hawks or the Black Hogs with the new found energy and grit that Andrew Shaw, Jimmy Hayes and Brandon Bollig have given them. Oh yeah and that Oduya ...

Islanders look to continue playoff push with a visit to Ottawa

The Islanders look to build off their win from earlier in the week and start a second half playoff push with a game against Ottawa tomorrow night. The Islanders are currently riding a hot streak getting 5 out of a possible 6 points in the last 3 games. This has the Islanders only 9 points out of playoff spot with plenty of time left in the season.

A couple of the sparks in the Islanders last win were the Bridgeport call ups of Kevin Poulin and Rhett Rakhshani. Poulin made his contribution playing a great game between the pipes, which showed many fans why he is considered the goaltender of the future. Rakhshani was a great move in my eyes as he was a spark plug on a line with Matt Martin and Josh Bailey. The whole game the line was buzzing around the ice and creating chances. Hopefully they will get another chance in Ottawa to keep showing that they are improving their chances and create more secondary scoring which is what this team needs.

John Tavares Shines In NHL All Star Game

The NHL All Star game is basically a chance for the NHL to sell itself to the fans by showcasing top level talent for two nights in a row. Fans are treated to highlight reel moves that you don't get to see in every hockey game as well as having the chance to become better acquainted with their on ice heroes. Several players are mic'ed up and provide commentary throughout the two nights, even while they are in game action, as seen with Montreal comedian/goaltender, Carey Price.

Price has become an excellent goaltender for the Canadiens and wasn't shy about showing off his personality, stopping a puck by facing the glass and using the reflection to help him guage his positioning as well as giving Islanders rep John Tavares a "Tim Tebow" as he came in for one of his shootout moves.

Senators Spoil Jets Return Home

Evander Kane had his 7th 2-goal game of his career, scoring the duece just 1:17 apart in the 3rd period, but it was not enough as the Jets fell to the Senators 6-4 in the Capital of Manitoba on Tuesday night.

The MTS Centre was at capacity again and fans were treated to some great defensive play at both ends of the ice. Ondrej Pavelec was tested early as the Senators put on the pressure for an opening goal. Jason Spezza had a great opportunity in the slot, only to shoot wide of the Winnipeg net.

Throughout the 1st period, Winnipeg had trouble getting through a neutral zone that was being clogged up by Ottawa. It wasn't until the line of W...

Senators inconsistent, but learning

At this point in the season I figured I would still be talking about the concept of the Ottawa Senators and the fan idea of "Fail for Nail."

For those who are not in the know, there was a grassroots campaign among Senators fan that the Sens should just spend the season giving their young prospects time to develop and not worry about the score-line, and just looking forward to a high draft pick.

While the attitude has not vanished entirely among the fan base, and I include myself in that, it is seeming less and less likely as the season wears on.

The Sens are not top of the table, with a 10-9-1 record, but they are certainly holding their own. Their record is cu...

Six Games In

p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; }

Instead of writing some game recaps, I decided to give my take on some players that are playing well, some that aren't, and some keys to winning games.

Looking Good:

Michal Handzus – This guy might be the prototypical 3rd line center that every team needs. Remember Malhotra? Handzus is the bottom six player the Sharks needed last year, and he has not disappointed. Defensively he is really good, he is always above 50% in the...
