Game Day : Sabres @ Habs

It's a divisional showdown in Habs nation tonight where the Buffalo Sabres are ready to take on the Montreal Canadiens.

With Ryan Miller out of the lineup due to a disgusting hit from Bruins forward Milan Lucic, the Sabres will be rolling with Jhonas Enroth who, even before this incident occured, was creating some goaltender controversy in Buffalo.  While Ryan Miller has struggled in the first month of the season, Enroth has excelled.  Enroth has already won 5 of the 7 games he's appeared in and has a Sv% of .944.  Habs fans are no stranger to goalie controversy, having seen Jaroslav Halak almost take Carey Prices job away from him a few year...

Pacioretty Pops Puck Past Pekka

Overtime is becoming a friend to the Habs on this road trip. Two games two overtime victories against western conference teams. Peter Budaj, playing in his second game of the season was sensational stopping 25 of the 26 shots he faced in a fast paced entertaining game.

The Nashville Predators played the 1000th game in their history. Barry Trotz also was coaching on this mile-stone night - only the fourth man in the history of the NHL to coach 1000 games with the same team. The others are Al Arbour - Islanders, Lindy Ruff (Sabres), Billy Reah (Blackhawks).

The Habs out played the Predators in the first period - skating and passing with authority and totally dominati...

Game Day: Montreal Canadiens Vs. Nashville Predators

Montreal Canadiens Vs. Nashville PredatorsBridgestone Arena

Nashville, Tennessee

Most observers would say that there isn’t too much that is similar between the Montreal Canadiens and the Nashville Predators.  The Habs are the most storied franchise in the NHL and the Preds were part of the late 90s Bettman era expansion into non hockey markets.  The Habs have won cups while the Preds haven’t.  I could go on and on but interestingly there are three things that make both teams very similar.

Coach Jacques Martin is closing in on coaching 1300 games in the league.   That accomplishment hasn’t been achieved by too many people.  Martin ...

It's Not About Being Pretty

Montreal Canadiens 3 Phoenix Coyotes 2 (OT)The Habs Get A Needed Win On The Road

When the season schedule is released some games jump out at you.  There are some games that excite you.  There are some games that you plan for.  And then there was last night’s game.  A game in Phonenix on a Thursday night in the middle of November which comprises one of the 82 the Habs will play.   Playing the Coyotes in Phoenix has become the least exciting part of any teams’ season.

So, all you can hope for is an easy win and to get out of Arizona without any injuries.  Last night’s win wasn’t easy.  It wasn’t pr...

Game Day : Habs @ Coyotes

The Habs travel to the dessert to face off against the Phoenix Coyotes.   The last 7 times these two teams played each other, the Habs have walked away with the victory.  With a struggle filled start, I don't like the Habs chances at making it 8 straight.

The Phoenix Coyotes look to already be playing in mid season form.  Veterans Ray Whitney and Shane Doan are off to incredible starts.  In 13 games played Whitney has 14 points and Doan has 10.  Let's not forget to mention the explosive Radim Vrbata, who has 12 points.  While Vrbata may not make the score sheet every night, you can count on his explosive streaks to help keep the Coyotes in the m...

Bulin Wall Rides Again

The high flying Edmonton Oilers were the visiting team in a packed bell Centre and they skated away with a 3-1 victory.

The first period was an even affair with both teams playing well defensively. The shots on goal were 6-4 in favour of the younger Oilers. The passes on both sides were not crisp and precise and the penalties were even at 2 apiece.

The trend in Habs games this year has been to play not to give up the first goal in the first period then start skating in the second. This game continued this trend, with the Habs giving the Oilers all they could handle in the second period.

The re-emergence of Nikolai Khabibulin - the Bulin Wall was once again i...

Game Day : Oilers @ Habs

The Edmonton Oilers are in Montreal tonight to face off against the Canadiens.  While the Habs have had some struggles early in the season, the young Oilers have surprised the critics and are off to a great start so far.

Coming into tonight's game the Oilers have a record of 8-3-2 and are 3rd in the western conference.  Safe to say, it's been some outstanding goaltending keeping the cinderalla story alive. Khabibulan is 6-0-2 with a .963 Sv% on the year, some pretty impressive numbers out of the gate.  Can they keep it up in Montreal tonight?

The Habs 4 game winning streak came to an end this past weekend, losing to the New York Range...

Big Hit, Early Ugliness Leads to Habs Loss in New York

If you were to take a quick glance at the box score from tonight's tilt at Madison Square Garden, you would probably have to assume that the New York Rangers had their way with the Montreal Canadiens. 5-3, heavy advantage in powerplays, faceoffs,  and (especially early) in shots, everything on paper screamed out that this was the Rangers' game.

But of course, stats can sometimes be misleading. You see, despite a relatively horrendous first period, for many reasons, the Montreal Canadiens may have actually been the better team on the ice tonight.

The chances definitely went in the Canadiens' favor, as did the hits and the sho...

After over a month and twelve games if the team you supported was 500 would you be happy?  If the team you followed was average without having its top defenceman in the line-up would you be happy?  Well that is where the Montreal Canadiens are.  They are just an average team sitting just out of a playoff position.  How they got here is a different story but how they move forward is more important.

The eminent off and on return of the Andrei Markov which was the big story two weeks ago has been forgotten.  P.K. Subb...

Habs Escape Ottawa with Win

The Habs and the Senators played a spirited game in the nations capital. The Habs winning by the smallest of measures 2-1.

The first period was a tight affair Plenty of blocked shots on both sides. One penalty on each team. There should have been a penalty shot awarded for the Habs when a Senator defenseman grabbed the puck with his hand, closed it then tossed it out of harms way. On the whole it was a very defensive period and the shots on goal were Habs 10 and Senators 4.

The second period showed Cole and Kostitsyn scoring when they went to the net. The Senators did not have an answer defensively for the big bodies going to the net. After each goal the fourth lin...
