... Well the Jerkstore called, they're running out of Sergeis! UPDATED 2PM: Bob Gainey Comments

Sorry for the double post but I think this is important enough of a story.... Sergei Kostitsyn, brother of Andrei and a player who was once a highly touted prospect for the Habs, has apparently gone AWOL, according to Habs Inside/Out. Bob Gainey will address the matter from Teen Ranch in Ontario, where the team is staying until tomorrow's game, but according to Renaud Lavois at RDS, Kostitsyn has let the team know through his agent, the notorious Don Meehan, that he will be asking for a trade and that he won't be reporting to the Hamilton Bulldogs training camp in Scotland (don't ask...) He has been suspended by the team and it is unknown at this time what else Bob Gainey and his s...

Final Habs pre-season round-up... Thursday can't come any sooner!

The Habs roster is down to 28 players, Sergei Kostitsyn is gone, those left are bromancing it up at ''teen ranch'' outside Toronto, and Thursday couldn't come any sooner... seriously... As good as it to have hockey back in any form, I'm sick of training-camp scrimmages, preseason games, and NHL 10 is even starting to get to me! I want the real thing, baby! I want hard hitting, meaningful, regular season hockey! And it's almost here! Only a few more days until the Habs face the Leafs in what is shaping up to be an emotional, hard-hitting, hard-nosed classic between the two age-old rivals. Ok, I MAY be hyping it up a bit more than it deserves to be, but, come on, the storylines coul...

Goaltending controversy? What goaltending controversy!?!?!

And so it begins... Despite the loss last night, Jaroslav Halak is making a convincing case for himself and his status between the pipes for the Montreal Canadiens. Halak's preseason play since the beginning of September has this city buzzing. He's clearly been the best goaltender at camp, better than the one that was groomed for the #1 position, Carey PriceThe stats don't lie: Halak's tallied a GAA of 1.56 and a save percentage of .938 (versus Price's very scary 3.23 GAA and .875 SVP... ouch). Because of their respective performances and stats such as these, there have already been calls in the medias and amongst fellow Habs bloggers to give the other young goalie a shot at starti...

Habs' preseason journey continues... more defensive changes on the way? Kovalev's Ottawa journey begins...

It's so weird to see Kovalev in a Senators jersey. Have to say that he certainly looks the part, but to see the man that basically represented the Habs these last few years go to the "enemy", well it kind of has to hurt, at least a little bit. I've never really had anything against the Sens, in fact I'd say they've always been one of my favorite teams, after the Habs, but it isn't fun to see one of your favorite players score a goal on your team. That being said, is anyone else scared of Alex Kovalev on the Sens this year? As a Habs fan, I know I am. I'm not that worried that the Sens slammed the Habs last night 6-1 . It's just preseason play, and the Habs were icing more Hamilto...

Habs season preview: Scott Gomez REALLY wants the C, line-up predictions, pre-season opener, and more!

Note: Props to Ron Guillet who polished off his first blog today... I'm bumping him down so I'm making sure to remind you all to scroll down and read his masterpiece after you read mine! Scotty Gomez is lobbying HARD to get the C. His man crush with this team and this city has begun. Thanks for this, Mike Boone: In his post-practice scrum today, Scott Gomez compared Carey Price to Martin Brodeur. He said he was blown away by Andrei Kostitsyn's skill level. He likes playing with Mike Cammalleri. And he's surprised the Bell Centre will be sold out tomorrow night for the exhibition opener against Florida. Gomez delivers these observations with a ready smile and the affa...
