The Minnesota Wild's Summer

As the summer draws to a close so too does the Minnesota Wild’s most exciting offseason in history. In addition to the well publicized Zach Parise, Ryan Suter Fourth of July signings, the Wild added needed depth in forwards Zenon Konopka and Torrey Mitchell. They also re-signed steady backup net minder Josh Harding to below market value.

The result has been a boost of optimism for a club that so desperately needed it.

All parties involved-ownership, management, players, and fans- watched as the team slowly came down from the high of a promising start for their franchise. In the Wild’s first ten seasons, they qualified for the postseason three times, won a divi...

Shea Weber Offer Sheet: Nashville Predators Debate Ability To Match, According To Report

According to a report from TSN’s Darren Dreger, it is expected that more meetings will take place between Nashville Predators owners as they decide whether or not to match Shea Weber’s offer sheet. The organization has until 11:30pm EST on Wednesday to make their decision.

Dreger reports that many around the NHL don’t believe the team will be able to match the Philadelphia Flyers’ offer of $110 million for 14 years. Nashville would have to pay Weber $27 million in the first year alone if they were to match.

Free Agency 2012: Zach Parise and Ryan Suter Both Sign With Minnesota Wild

The two biggest free agents on the market this summer have made their decision, and their decision is Minnesota.

It was announced early Tuesday afternoon that both Zach Parise and Ryan Suter have agreed to terms with the Minnesota Wild, both for 13-year, $98 million deals.

Parise, the former captain of the New Jersey Devils, scored 404 points in 502 games over seven seasons with the Devils. After suffering from a season-ending injury last season, he had a successful comeback season, with 69 points in 82 games. He led his team to Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals, where they ultimately lost to the Los Angeles Kings.

Penguins Sign Grit Early, Showing Signs Of What Is To Come

On free agency day one, the Pittsburgh Penguins attempted to woo a few key additions, but as they decided to make everyone wait, Pittsburgh made a few strong depth moves.

Already acquiring strong two way forward Brandon Sutter via trade, Pittsburgh wanted to boost its toughness level.  After being beaten in all facets of the game in their opening round playoff series, the Penguins wanted to make sure that they were no longer going to be push over’s. Enter in Tanner Glass.

The UFA forward Glass spent last season with the Winnipeg Jets.  The 28 year old winger posted 246 hits and 51 blocked shots last season while averaging 1:46 shorthanded.  His physical pr...

Free Agency 2012: Philadelphia Flyers Make Offers to UFAs Zach Parise, Ryan Suter, and Matt Carle

According to a report by the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Sam Carchidi, the Philadelphia Flyers have made offers to unrestricted free agents Zach Parise, Ryan Suter, and Matt Carle. ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun confirmed Carchidi’s report.

All three UFAs have been rumoured to be targeted by the Flyers, especially defensemen Suter and Carle.

Parise, one of the elite forwards in the league, is one of the top sought-after free agents this summer. After playing in just 13 games in the 2010-2011 season due to injury, he posted 69 points in 82 games during the 2011-2012 regular season, and another 15 points in 24 games during the playoffs.

Free Agency 2012: Philadelphia Flyers Sign Michael Leighton To 1-Year Deal

In their first move during the free agency period, the Philadelphia Flyers brought back a familiar face to fill their backup goaltender position, signing Michael Leighton to a 1-year, $900k contract. Leighton replaces Sergei Bobrovsky, who was traded from the Flyers to the Columbus Blue Jackets on June 22 in return for three draft picks.

Scott Hartnell Named As Member Of NHLPA Negotiating Committee

According to a report from Michael Russo of the Star Tribune, Flyers forward Scott Hartnell has been named as a member of the 31-player NHLPA negotiating committee.

Negotiations between the Players' Association and the NHL over a new collective bargaining agreement will begin on Friday. The current agreement is set to expire on September 15th.

Hartnell and committee members will be closely involved in that process, and various members will attend bargaining sessions and be responsible for corresponding with other members not in attendance.

Claude Giroux Wins NHL 13 Cover Vote

After tallying up the 25 million votes submitted, the results are finally in: Claude Giroux will be on the cover of EA Sports’ NHL 13. The results were announced live at the 2012 NHL Awards in Las Vegas on Tuesday night.

Giroux beat out Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne in the final round of voting, and follows in the footsteps of recent cover models Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Toews, and Patrick Kane.

The tournament began with 50 cover vote candidates, and was eventually whittled down to 16 nominees, set up in a bracket format. Giroux surpassed such big names as Stamkos, Evgeni Malkin, and Anze Kopitar on his way to the final round.

Predators Trade Goaltender Anders Lindback To Tampa Bay In Multi-Piece Deal

On Friday afternoon, the Nashville Predators traded goaltender Anders Lindback, forward Kyle Wilson and a 2012 seventh-round draft selection (No. 202 overall) to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for two second-round draft selections in the 2012 draft (No. 37 and No. 50 overall), a third round selection in 2013 draft and goaltender Sebastien Caron.

Moving Lindback was a foregone conclusion for the Predators, who have the services of one of the NHL's premier goaltender's in Pekka Rinne. When the club signed Rinne to a seven-year, $49 million contract last season, Lindback became a movable asset; one which has been in demand.

For the Lightning, Lindback is considered t...
