After Poor Effort Against Islanders, Flyers Look To Right The Ship in New Jersey

After an uninspired effort (or lack thereof) that led to a 4-1 loss to the New York Islanders on Thursday night, the Philadelphia Flyers (27-14-4) will try to return to form on Saturday when they face the New Jersey Devils (26-18-2).

New Coach: Same Result

The Habs started the day by firing the coach, hoping to inject more emotion in the team. On an emotional day, the Habs played the Devils in the Bell Centre.

The Habs did a very good job in the first period, despite taking three penalties. The Devils did come out of the first period with a one goal lead. But the Habs did play with energy that has not been there for a long time.

The second period was won by the Habs. 3-2. The period was well played going both ways - a lot of energy in the second. The thing that was weird to me and was very telling - PK Subban scored his second of the season and there was no celebration. Emotionless - for an emotional player this seemed ver...

Game Day: Devils @ Canadiens

The New Jersey Devils are in town tonight to face-off against the Montreal Canadiens for the second time in a week. The Devils are currently riding a three-game win streak that they will be looking to add to, while the Canadiens squad will hope to bounce back after a heart-breaking 4-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday

The big story heading in to a game between the Devils and Canadiens is usually about how Martin Brodeur unstoppable in the Bell Centre. While that may be true, something else is stealing the headlines on this day.

Brian Rolston, Jay Pandolfo, Marty Reasoner and Steve Staios were added to this Islanders team during the off-season to provide veteran stability throughout the line-up; Rolston was acquired for cap room and an added offensive punch over Trent Hunter, Pandolfo and Reasoner were brought in for defensive support on the bottom line, and Staios added grit and experience to a relatively young defense crew.

Let's take a look at their numbers to see where they stand...

Game Day: Canadiens @ Devils

The Montreal Canadiens will be looking to get back in the win-column in New Jersey on Saturday afternoon as they visit the Prudential Center to face-off with the Devils. The Canadiens have lost three of their last four in a shootout, including Thursday nights 4-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks. Neither team has been hugely successful heading into Saturday's game, with both clubs amassing only 29 points on the season so far. The Devils do hold a slight advantage though, with two games in hand and going 5-5-0 in their last ten games compared to Montreal, who have gone 3-3-4. The Devils will be looking to win a third straight game against an opponent from the No...

Islanders Skate To First Road Win!

The Prudential Center was as loud as it had been the entire night. The New Jersey Devils just tied the game at 3 with 2 seconds remaining in regulation.

Or did they?

After a league review in Toronto, it was determined that Zach Parise’s skate directed the puck into the net and the goal was overturned.

Islanders get Second Crack at Devils

The New York Islanders (5-11-4) are hoping for a different effort on Saturday afternoon, in the second half of a home-and-home series with the New Jersey Devils (12-8-1).

On Friday afternoon, the Islanders were shutout by the Devils at the Nassau Coliseum, 1-0. It was the 6th time the Islanders have been shutout this season, the 5th time on home ice.

Jack Capuano spoke a lot after the game about "getting more shots and bodies to the net." The Islanders had some moments where they did that, but their passing still looked out of synch.

Al Montoya returned from his stint on the IR and was one of the few bright spots for the Islanders. Montoya made 22 saves, includ...

Still Without Power On The Island; Isles Lose 1-0 To Devils

The New York Islanders went into today's game against the New Jersey Devils hoping to make-up for their overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers but came up short, losing 1-0 to another division rival.

It was the sixth time this season that the Islanders have been shutout, a glaring reason why this team has struggled to win hockey games.

"Obviously we didn't score. If you don't score you're not going to win a hockey game," said Islanders captain Mark Streit to me after the game. "We had chances, faced a pretty good goalie, had chances on the PP, we just didn't score but I still think there's a lot of good things we did.I thought tha...

Isles Dance With Devils

The New York Islanders play host to the New Jersey Devils this afternoon.  Islanders fans also hope that their team remembers to play hockey – something that has proved to be a difficult task in the last few games.

On Thanksgiving Eve, the Islanders dropped a heartbreaker to the Flyers in overtime, despite having gained a 3-1 lead.  An unfortunate bounce off the glass led to Danny Briere’s tying goal with 5 minutes to play in the third period.

The Islanders received a power play opportunity in overtime, but were unable to convert.  The Flyers quickly took advantage of the second chance they were given for the bonus point and ...

Turnovers Hurting Bobrovsky

Sergei Bobrovsky hasn’t had the best luck during his time with the Flyers. As if worrying about playing time wasn't stressful enough, now turnovers are starting to torment the young goalie.
