Hank to the Rescue

Henrik Lundqvist uncharacteristically has battled with inconsistency this season. Hank has been the back bone of the Rangers since assuming the starting netminding gig as a rookie in 2005-2006. He is solely why the Rangers are a playoff contender year-in and year-out. Yet it has seemed Marty Biron, brought in this off-season to spell Hank a little more to keep him fresh for the post-season, has outplayed the franchise goaltender to this point in the season. Overall, Hank's numbers are still solid (.917 S%, 2.72 GAA) but Biron's (.917 S%, 2.15 GAA) are even stronger. Hank has also given up several soft, back-breaking goals in close games that have proven to be the difference in those cont...

Rangers Rally falls short in 5-3 loss to Lightning

New York, NY - The New York Rangers (12-10-1) were able to strike in the third period of play but eventually fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning (13-7-0) by a score of 5-3 in hockey action on Wednesday night. The Rangers were able to net three goals in the third period, but could not come back from a comfortable Lightning lead as Tampa Bay eventually skated away with the win. Ryan Malone struck for the first two Lightning goals, with both coming on power play opportunities in the first period. Malone was able to net two wrist shots to give Tampa Bay the early 2-0 lead. Rookie-of-the-Year candidate Steven Stamkos made it 3-0 when he netted a wrist shot at the 4:53 mark of the second period. ...

Rangers Go Wild in 5-2 victory over Minnesota

New York, NY - The New York Rangers (11-9-1) were able to pick up a huge 5-2 road win in Minnesota over the Wild (10-7-2) in hockey action on Saturday night. New York was able to get on the scoreboard three times in the second period which helped to lead them to the victory. Artem Anisimov got the first goal of the game at the 8:50 mark of the second period netting a wrist shot for the first goal of the game. Michael Del Zotto was able to net a power play goal at the 14:24 mark in that same frame. Then to cap that period Alex Frolov connected on a wrap-around shot at the 19:00 mark to give the Rangers the 3-0 lead. The offense did not stop there as Brandon Dubinsky gave the Rangers th...

Rangers Streak Snapped in 3-2 loss to Bruins

New York, NY - The New York Rangers (10-8-1) three game winning streak was snapped in the 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins (10-5-1) in hockey action on Wednesday night. The Rangers tried to mount another classic comeback in their first game wearing their Heritage Jersey, but could not do so as the Bruins skated away with the victory. Brandon Dubinsky got the Rangers on the board first at the 7:10 mark of the second period. Dubinsky took a beautiful pass which was started by Henrik Lundqvist who got a tip by Ryan Callahan, the puck found its way to Dubinsky who let off a wicked slap shot for a power play goal and the 1-0 Rangers lead. The Bruins found an answer at the 11:06 mark as Mil...

Blue Shirts Overcome to Win 3rd Straight

After smacking the Edmonton Oilers around last night and all of the drama that caused, the Rangers headed out on the road for their first match-up of the season against divisional rival Pittsburgh. Believe me when I say I wished the Rangers had saved a couple of the 8 goals they scored on Edmonton for the Penguins. The Rangers were outclassed from a skill perspective but still hung tough until the officiating tried it's damnedest to give the game to Sid "the Whiner" Crosby and his buddies. My apologies, Quinn. The Rangers were outplayed through much of the game yet still led 1 - 0 after an Erik Christensen goal. Hank was outstanding and the Rangers were ready to sacrifice everything to co...

Rangers get a Gab Trick in 8-2 victory over Oilers

New York, NY - In his second day back with the squad winger Marian Gaborik was able to record a hat trick along with an assist to lead the New York Rangers (9-7-1) to an 8-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers (4-9-3) in hockey action on Sunday night. Gaborik got the Blueshirts scoring opportunities going early as he netted the first goal at the 1:35 mark of the first period. Edmonton had several good scoring opportunities but they were all turned away by keeper Martin Biron who was solid in his second straight appearance making 18 saves in filling in for the still sick Henrik Lundqvist. Edmonton then took all the energy away with two quick goals in the second period as Ryan Jones and Sh...

Rangers Singing the Blues in 2-0 Loss to St. Louis

New York, NY - The New York Rangers (7-6-1) were indeed singing the blues in their 2-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues (9-1-2) in hockey action on Sunday night. Two goals from Alex Steen were enough to help lead St. Louis their seventh straight victory. For New York who had plenty of opportunities to cash in on Sunday night’s game as they out shot St. Louis by a tally of 27-21 just could not find the back of the net. One of the biggest missed opportunities was the five minute power play they had at the 7:25 mark as B. J. Crombeen was called to the sin bin for boarding. In the cage for St. Louis Ty Conklin made 27 saves for his 15th NHL shutout. The last time the Conklin played in the c...

Rangers Bounce Back Versus Devils

After a lackluster effort Thursday against the Flyers it was imperative the Rangers get back to what has brought them success recently; hard work and a team-first attitude. It wouldn't be easy as the Blue Shirts would enter Friday's contest against the rival New Jersey Devils down one of their key players, Ryan Callahan, who sat out due to soreness after taking a tumble into the end boards courtesy of a Kimmo Timonen shove in the Flyers game. Compounding matters was the Devils were coming off a huge win over the defending champion Blackhawks in which their struggling offense potted 5 markers against Chicago. The Devils, who have struggled all season, were looking to keep old mo rolling an...

A Blueshirts Tale of Woe in 4-1 loss in Philly

New York, NY - The high-powered Philadelphia Flyers (8-4-1) were able to defeat the New York Rangers (6-5-1) by the score of 4-1 in hockey action on Thursday night. And the Flyers were powered by former Rangers Blair Betts and Nikolay Zherdev who were both able to net goals for the Flyers. Adding power-play goals were Mike Richards and Chris Pronger to extend its season-bets winning streak to five games. The good news if you are a Rangers fans is that the Blueshirts are 14-4-2 in their last 20 games in Philadelphia. The bad news is that the patient defensive, gritty squad that the fans were being treated too went away for one day. The Blueshirts were able to net the first goal of the g...

Rangers Outplayed but Survive Over Struggling Leafs

The portents didn't bode well for the Rangers tonight. They were playing their 3rd game in 4 nights, they had lost 2 games in a row, they were on the road in Toronto and in addition to being without Marian Gaborik, Vinny Prospal and Chris Drury, the club had a few other players battling nagging injuries. Derek Boogaard has an infected finger, Artem Anisimov had his bell rung a few nights ago against Atlanta and Michal Rozsival has been dealing with a sore knee. No, it looked like the New York Rangers had a lot working against them tonight. However, this club has already displayed resiliency and fortitude and tonight they would rely on those qualities to get them through a 2 - 0 win over t...
