Game Preview: New York Islanders vs. Carolina Hurricanes

Raleigh, NC -- the New York Islanders haven’t beaten the Carolina Hurricanes in two previous meetings this season, but are hoping the third time is the charm tonight. The Isles will take a 14-5-2 road record into PNC Arena in search of their first victory against the franchise formerly known as the Hartford Whalers.

The Hurricanes are the only Eastern Conference team that the Islanders have yet to defeat during this truncated 2013 NHL season.

New York Islanders at Winnipeg Jets – Can Isles “Clinch?”

The Isles are currently 23-16-5 (51 points) and are sitting in 7th in the NHL’s Eastern Conference and can all but clinch a postseason berth with a regulation win today. While two points wouldn’t technically ensure a playoff spot for the Islanders, it would put them in perfect position to make the NHL’s “second season.”

New York is on a 7-0-2 run since Apr. 1 and is 10-1-2 in its last 13 games, a run that is making the rest of the league take note.

New York Islanders Face Florida Panthers: Playoff Push Continues On Long Island

It’s generally assumed that 54 points will earn a team a berth in the 2013 NHL Eastern Conference playoffs. The New York Islanders (21-16-5, 47 points), currently 7th in the standings, need only seven more points in their last six games to capture the eighth seed in the postseason bracket...

New York Islanders vs. New York Rangers – Battle Of New York

The New York Islanders will take on the New York Rangers at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum tonight at 7:00 PM EDT in the biggest matchup these two teams have played in at least five years.

The Isles (21-16-4, 46 points) will try to extend their season-high winning streak at home to five games. They’ll have to do it against a Rangers squad (20-16-4, 44 points) currently chasing them in the NHL Eastern Conference standings.

Both teams know what’s at stake tonight.

New York Islanders vs. Philadelphia Flyers – Isles Have Revenge On Their Minds

The Islanders will take on the Flyers tonight at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum at 7:00 PM EDT. For those fans that won’t be in attendance at the old barn on Hempstead Turnpike, MSG+ will carry the television broadcast and WHRU 88.7 will have the radio call.

New York will look to take advantage of its recent run of good form in front of their hometown fans against a struggling Philadelphia squad.

New York Islanders vs. Tampa Bay Lightning – Sold-Out Coliseum Set To Provide Home-Ice Advantage

Multiple news outlets have reported that tickets for tonight’s game have already sold out, and with good reason. It appears that the fans on Long Island have finally realized that this Isles team is worth watching.

2013 NHL Eastern Conference Power Rankings

The 2013 NHL season is no longer an 82 game marathon, but instead is a 48 game dash to the finish line.

Will teams that had multiple players skating in Europe fair better? Will veteran squads win because they will have fresh legs all season long? Only the next few months will tell.

Here are my Eastern Conference power rankings.

1. Pittsburgh Penguins – A healthyEvgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby will lead Pittsburgh deep into the Stanley Cup playoffs. The addition of veteran goalie Tomas Vokoun gives Coach Dan Bylsma a solid option if Marc-Andre Fleury falters.

2. New York Rangers – With the ...

It ISN’T always sunny in Philadelphia – Hawks lose 5-4 to Flyers

I knew this game would be emotional for the Blackhawks going back to Philadelphia where they won the Stanley Cup. I’m not sure if it was seeing the sea of orange jerseys or having my blood rise at the sight of Scott Hartnell but I was ready for a thrilling game between two teams and it did not disappoint. While these teams’ rosters have changed significantly and despite the fact they do not face each other often, there would be deep emotions running between them.

Both teams heading into this game were coming off of disappointing losses. The Blackhawks were looking for a win to keep pace in the Western Conference where they now reside in second behind their o...
