Blues vs. Sharks - Playoff Preview

Finally! After a long 82 game schedule the Blues can really get down to business. Champions are not made in the regular season, but are made through the playoffs. This time around, this St. Louis Blues team could make a strong run. They have the home ice set for at least the first two rounds, and looking at their record at home they could not ask for anything better coming into their first playoff game against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday.

But is home ice enough for these youthful Blues to take down a perennial Western Conference powerhouse in the Sharks? This preview should be able to sort all those questions out and more.

Blues Continue Their Battle for Tops in the West

The Blues' rise to the top of the Central Division, second in the Western Conference, and third overall in the whole of the NHL, all started with a win against the Blackhawks back in early November, and, coming into tonight's game against their central division rival's they hope to keep the momentum they have built up continuing.

Although the 'Hawks have gotten the better of them the last two outings, a 3 – 1 loss on the road and 5 – 2 loss at home, a win tonight would even the season's match up at two games a piece. T...

Sharks bleed Hawks 5-3

We are now past the midway point of this nine game road trip. Thank goodness for that. The Hawks are now 0-4-1 so far on the nine game road trip and keep losing ground in their division as every team in front of them picks up points. Detroit picked up two points against Anaheim last night.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. I found myself watching this game with my lucky Seabrook jersey and my lucky Hawks charm near me. The results however were the same. The truth of it is no matter how we want to help this team break out of this slump only they can do it.

I knew this would be a tough one for them for several reasons. The loss of Hjalmarsson and Mo...

Blues Looking to Improve on Road Record for Second Half

More important than the return of Alex Steen and Andy MacDonald, more important than the impressive play of their two goalies, more important than the extra long break they got after the All Star Break, nothing is more key to the Blues keeping pace atop the Western Conference standings than improving their road record. The Checking Line's Taylor Giffin takes a look at the road woes that St. Louis has had and if the second half presents an opportunity for change.

Coming out of the All Star Break holding down one of their best positions in the Wes...

Chicago Blackhawks' - Road Test

We are half way through the 2011-2012 NHL season as we are in  All Star Game weekend.  The Chicago Blackhawks are in a battle for every point with their Central Division mates the Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators.

The Blackhawks have enjoyed the comforts and the fan support of the United Center for most of December and January.  They have the highest amount of homes games...

Blackhawks look to continue roll against Predators

The Blackhawks are coming off of a hot night in cold, blustery snowstorm in Chicago. They are looking to continue their hot streak and stay ahead of tough Central divisional opponent Nashville.  The Central Division of the Western Conference is turning out to be an absolute dog fight amongst the teams in the best division in hockey right now.

Currently the Chicago Blackhawks sit atop the Central division and Western conference with a 29-13-6 record and a league leading 64 points. The Blackhawks are coming in off of a three game win streak and an emotional reunion game Friday with the Florida Panthers. It is important they come away with points in this one as they a...

Hawks looking to bounce back against Wings

The Blackhawks have not gone into the new year playing very well to say the least. They are looking to turn that all around against divisional foe Detroit Red Wings today.  The last time in fact that the Blackhawks have won a game has been against Detroit that’s how long it’s been.

The last time these two teams meet at the UC the Hawks won 3-2 in which they played a very good game. In that game that saw a Toews penalty shot goal and Brent Seabrook continued his career successes against the winged wheel jerseys. Crawford had a stellar game as well to help his team hang on to win.

They may have only played one another nine days ago but it seems like...

It ISN’T always sunny in Philadelphia – Hawks lose 5-4 to Flyers

I knew this game would be emotional for the Blackhawks going back to Philadelphia where they won the Stanley Cup. I’m not sure if it was seeing the sea of orange jerseys or having my blood rise at the sight of Scott Hartnell but I was ready for a thrilling game between two teams and it did not disappoint. While these teams’ rosters have changed significantly and despite the fact they do not face each other often, there would be deep emotions running between them.

Both teams heading into this game were coming off of disappointing losses. The Blackhawks were looking for a win to keep pace in the Western Conference where they now reside in second behind their o...

Oilers vs Blackhawks like Oil and Water as Oilers down Hawks 4-3

With the first game in the New Year the Chicago Blackhawks were looking to continue their winning ways from December. The last time they played the Oilers in Edmonton it was a complete debacle in Alberta. This however is the season of resolutions and after some soul searching as a team and a new year I thought would bring a new result but I was wrong.

The Blackhawks needed to stay out of the penalty box as the Edmonton Oilers have a good power play and rank fourth overall in the NHL but just couldn’t do it.  I was also looking for improvement on the Blackhawks power play and continued stellar defense as the previous games with Edmonton were high scoring but n...
