Newly posted, it’s called “How the Flyers Won the Stanley Cup”, and it was originally played on May 27, 1975. The call is by Danny Gallivan and Dick Irvin. I also have a copy in my collection whereby Gene Hart and Don Earle did the call for WTAF Channel 29 in Philadelphia (now going by the call letters WTXF FOX 29).

And now, the Philly feed...
I want to share with you a couple of classic NHL clips you might remember seeing.
These two videos are from the Adams Division Finals of 1983, which featured the Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres. The series ended up going to seven games, with the deciding game being played at the historic Boston Garden. The date was April 24. The man who called the goals you will hear in these two videos was the late Fred Cusick, and these games were originally broadcast on WSBK-TV Channel 38 in Boston.
The first video is my own posting, the highlights from TV38 airing on Hockey Night in Canada, where Game 1 of the Campbell Conference Final was ongoing between Chicago and Edmonton; the second was poste...
Time for another archival trip. This time, we go back to February 1 and 2, 2002.
First, we look at an installment of “It Happened on Hockey Night” that tells of the 1970 NHL All-Star Game.
Next, a look at another installment of “It Happened on Hockey Night”, telling of the 1980 NHL All-Star Game.
Dick Irvin narrates in both of the above clips.
Up next is a piece profiling Pat Quinn and Scotty Bowman, and 2002 would mark a rare moment that they would coach head-to-head with one another in an All-Star Game.
And finally, an installment ...
It’s been said a great game is made by great players. This is my personal list of 10 great games from the 2009-10 season, and it’s not confined to the NHL. This list is presented in no particular order; you can arrange them for yourself or you can add another candidate as an honorable mention.
Olympics: Canada vs. United States (February 28, 2010)
This is the game where virtually the entire country dropped everything to watch it, as it was for all the marbles, and home gold supremacy. It took a loss to the United States in a Round Robin match for Canada to regroup and learn from their mistakes. Canada jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Jonathan Toews (Chicago) and Corey Perry (An...
This Summer, the National Hockey League has been looking at ways to improve the game. From moving the faceoff circles to eliminating shootouts, NHL officials have targeted a few ideas that could be beneficial to the entire league.
After the NHL lockout, the shootout came into effect and many fans were excited about it, as expected. The shootout was something rarely seen in real-life, and with the number of superstars around the NHL, it sounded like a promising idea.
Now, five years later, the idea has not panned out as hoped. The shootout has even cost the New York Rangers to miss the playoffs, and allowed the Philadelphia Flyers to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals. The shootout’s i...
New Jersey- The Devils made some great moves in the offseason to already improve a team that finished 2nd in the Eastern Conference last season. The Devils added Anton Volchenkov and former Sabre Henrik Tallinder. Along with those two big defenseman, the Devils also acquired Johan Hedberg, who will backup Martin Brodeur, and Jason Arnott, who is now in his second stint with the club.
The Devils remain a dangerous team with Brodeur in net, even though he is past his prime. Brodeur is still one of the best in the league at 38 years old. Zach Parise is the new star in New Jersey as he put up 82 points last season. The Devils have good veteran experience with players like Patrik Elias, Brian ...
