Flyers riding win streak into Tampa

The Flyers are winner of three straight and four of the last five. None of this matters, though, with their recent struggles in Tampa.

The Flyers begin a short Florida road trip tonight as they take on one of the east's top offenses in the Lightning. That task won't be any easier as they look to end a six-game (0-5-1) skid in Tampa.

2014-15 Flyers Preview: The New Guys

The Philadelphia Flyers head into the 2014-15 season with virtually the same roster that lost in seven games to the New York Rangers in the Metropolitan Division Semifinals.

With that said, there have been a couple new additions to the Flyers’ proverbial puzzle.

2014-15 Flyers Preview: Defense

The future for the defense of the Philadelphia Flyers is extremely bright.

Players such as Samuel Morin and Robert Hagg, along with Shayne Gostisbehere are not far from being NHL ready. And the expectations are very high for when they are ready.

Until then, the Flyers have a bit of an issue on the back end. Veteran defenseman Kimmo Timonen’s future in professional hockey is in question as he is out indefinitely due to blood clots in his lungs and right calf. The loss of Timonen will likely expose some of the issues that the Flyers have on the blue line.

Flyers send Gostisbehere, Laughton to Lehigh Valley; Morin still in Philly

The Philadelphia Flyers need to get the active roster to 23 by the start of the season.

They're at 26.

The Flyers got to that number when they sent center Scott Laughton and defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere to Lehigh Valley on Wednesday. Both, who were top candidates to start the season with the Flyers, will start in Lehigh.

The Flyers also waived veteran Zack Stortini. If he isn't picked up, he will join Laughton and Gostisbehere in Lehigh.

Flyers Trade Tye McGinn; Sign D Nick Schultz

The Flyers made a pair of moves Wednesday, trading a forward and signing a defenseman.

The Flyers shipped forward Tye McGinn to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 2015 third round pick. They signed free agent defenseman Nick Schultz to a one-year, $1.25 million deal.

One-on-One With Cal Clutterbuck

At this year's 2013 NHL Entry Draft, the New York Islanders traded Nino Niederreiter, one of their top prospects, to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a draft pick and Cal Clutterbuck; a 5'11" and 213 pound forward that is known for delivering devastating body checks and sticking up for his teammates (Photo credit: SWP2011/Flickr).

He has also been able to contribute offensively over the years, scoring 15 goals in 2012 and 19 goals in 2011.

Clutterbuck called me this afternoon to discuss the trade from Minnesota, his previous ties to the Islanders, what fans can expect out of him on a nightly basis and more.

The Most Over-Hyped, Over-Analyzed Day of the Year

Greger Buer looks at why Trade Deadline Day has become to most over hyped day on the NHL calender and why the Flames didn't do anything today, but have made moves in the past three months that made up for it.
