Hawks head home after beating the Coyotes 5-2

In the final game of the Hawks long circus trip the team could not have asked for a better way to turn the page and close out the long road excursion. They may have started the trip wrong in Denver but closed solid in Phoenix. The game also was the second start for back up rookie goalie Antti Raanta and he did not disappoint.

For the first time this year, the Jobing Com Arena was completely sold out and of course there was a sea of red Indianhead jerseys a sight to the delight for Hawks fan back in Chicago. The Blackhawks fans were treated to the Hawks coming out of the gates flying as they utterly dominated the first period.

Before the period was half over the Hawks wer...

Hawks defeat Stars in marathon shootout; head to Phoenix to wrap up circus trip

The Hawks finished off the Canada portion of their Circus road trip with a 3-2 SO win against the Dallas Stars, moving their record to 5-1-0 on the circus road trip.  Corey Crawford stayed in strong in net on a night that the Hawks turned over the puck over far more often than usual, stopping 25 shots and denying 10 shooters in the shootout and earning his 100th NHL win in dramatic fashion.

The Stars got the first goal of the night after a bad play and miscommunic...

Hawks Drop Second of Back-to-Back Games in OT

The Hawks put a season high 44 shots on goal, but rookie goaltender Reto Berra stood on his head in his NHL debut as the Flames won a 3-2 decision in overtime.  Marian Hossa scored the tying goal as the Hawks earned one point in their second game in two days.

The Hawks had a fast start as per their usual brand of hockey, outshooting the Flames 18-11 in the first period, three of which came on their first power play opportunity.  Berra, who finished the game w...

Blackhawks take series in thrilling Game 7 overtime

And then there were eight.

The Chicago Blackhawks had rallied from a 1-3 series deficit to force game seven. And what a game seven it was, one to send off the Red Wings to the Eastern Conference with a memorable farewell.

At the end of the day, this series was a wake-up call for the Blackhawks. The Minnesota Wild had never pushed the Hawks up against the ropes. A couple of games with less-than-stellar effort, and the Presidents' Trophy winners were suddenly at risk of being knocked out in the second round.

Somewhere between game four and seven, the Blackhawks began waking up, finding their game again. They won game five, then six, a...

Blackhawks have a rough night in Vancouver; lose 3-1

Both teams playing in Vancouver tonight already had punched their tickets to the playoffs, but the Blackhawks had an eye on the Presidents' Trophy, and the Canucks wanted to ensure they locked up the Pacific division.

But between the two teams, the Blackhawks looked like they were asleep at the wheel, aside from Corey Crawford, who was doing his best to carry the game. Coach Quenneville's random line generator was set to "liquify", and line combinations changed regularly though the game.

The Canucks put a lot of pressure on early, limiting Chicago to mostly one-and-done shots in the first. Niklas Hjalmarsson took a charging penalty for a hit on one ...

Blackhawks Snuff Out Stars 5-2; Further Cement Western Conference Lead

Five different Blackhawks players scored, including Andrew Shaw with the game-winner, in a 5-2 Chicago victory over the Dallas Stars Monday night.

The Blackhawks (33-5-4) win was their third over Dallas (21-18-3) this year, sweeping the season series. The win was also Chicago’s sixth straight and moved them 11 points ahead of the idle Anaheim Ducks for the top spot in the Western Conference.

While Chicago was cementing its playoff position, Dallas was left wanting. The loss kept the Stars two points back of Detroit for the eighth playoff spot in the West, each team with just six games remaining. Columbus also sits two points ahead of Dallas, albeit with only...

Blackhawks take on the World

Although the Chicago Blackhawks season may have ended some Blackhawks were  not ready to put their hockey sticks down just yet. Several Blackhawks decided to represent their countries teams at the IIHF World Championships held simultaneously in Helsinki, FIN and Stockholm, SWE.

Duncan Keith D and Patrick Sharp LW played for team Canada while Viktor Stalberg RW, Niklas Hjalmarsson D and Marcus Kruger C donned the Swedish team jersey. Michael Frolik also is playing for the Czech Republic team.

Unfortunately, on Thursday both Team Canada and Team Sweden were knocked out of the quarterfinal rounds by Slovakia and Czech Republic respectively. Michael Frolik is the...

Blackhawks head to the house of Blues tonight

Chicago briefly stumbled after posting some excellent wins at the end of their epic February road trip; they've now won the first two games of a three-game road trip, taking contests against Detroit and Ottawa.  Tonight, the Blackhawks roll into St. Louis for the 4th of six games against the Blues this season. So far, Chicago is 2-1-0 versus the Blues, including being shut out during their first match up of the year. St. Louis boasts one of the best home records of the season, and a pair of goalies - Halak and Elliot - that together have compiled 12 shut outs for their team. The Blues allow a meager 26.0 shots against/gm (1st in the league), the lowest amount of gi...

Blackhawks seek to take a bite out of the Sharks

Tonight, the Chicago Blackhawks are in San Jose, facing off against their former Stanley Cup-winning goaltender, Antti Niemi, and their Western Conference rival, the Sharks.

No matter if Niemi stays with the Sharks or if he goes on to another team, that's how it will always be said. Niemi, after all, helped the Blackhawks win their first Cup in 49 years. Then the Sharks got Niklas Hjalmarsson to sign an offer sheet, and it put the salary-cap-strapped Blackhawks over a barrel in terms of choosing between a young and promising defenseman, and a young and promising goalie; they couldn't keep both without further gutting their roster of players considered core -...
