When the Oilers rolled into town, the Blackhawks remembered last season: Edmonton embarassing Chicago 9-2 and again 8-4, both on Rexall Place ice, and a 4-3 loss on United Center ice.

But even the hot young powerhouses of the up-n-coming Oilers couldn't hold the Blackhawks back from a win, and Edmonton was the one taking a 3-2 loss at the end of the night.

It's a known fact that general manager Paul Holmgren is not happy with the goaltending this season from both Ilya Bryzgalov and Sergei Bobrovsky.

According to a source close to The Fourth Period, the Flyers could be seeking a number one goalie. TFP writer Dustin Leed also confirmed the goalie interest.

It was all about young Canadian Jamie Benn in Texas this afternoon as he scored twice to help the Stars overcome the struggling Edmonton Oilers 4-1. Benn has hit a great run of form lately and is now seen as one of the best centres in the NHL by many. Rookie Richard Bachman got his first start in net for the Stars since Kari Lehtonen returned from injury.

After the Oilers absorbed some early pressure from the Stars on a great first shift, the opening the period turned out to be quite an even one. The Oilers’ struggles continued Thursday night in a 4-2 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes, being outshot 42-20. Having four days off before the game could either be a good thing or a bad thing, and for the Oilers, it was a bad thing. They couldn’t get their legs going and the Coyotes coasted past them as if they were nothing. The high flying Edmonton Oilers were the visiting team in a packed bell Centre and they skated away with a 3-1 victory.

The first period was an even affair with both teams playing well defensively. The shots on goal were 6-4 in favour of the younger Oilers. The passes on both sides were not crisp and precise and the penalties were even at 2 apiece.

The trend in Habs games this year has been to play not to give up the first goal in the first period then start skating in the second. This game continued this trend, with the Habs giving the Oilers all they could handle in the second period.

The Edmonton Oilers, winners of six in a row, are off to their best start in a quarter-decade. They'll be the visitors tonight at Jobing.com Arena as they face off against the Phoenix Coyotes, who after a five-game unbeaten streak fell victim to Pekka Rinne's 23rd shutout on Thursday.

The Coyotes, who were 3-1 against the Oilers last season, sent Andy Miele back to the AHL's Portland Pirates yesterday, as Cal O'Reilly is expected to start tonight. Mike Smith will likely be the starting goaltender, and Martin Hanzal's status is still questionable. Out for the Oilers are Cam Barker, Ales Hemsky, Ryan Whitney and Darcy Hordichuk.
