It's Time to Rebound

The Red Wings seek to rebound with a stronger offensive effort tonight against Colorado. The Wings' power play has been anemic over the past 10 games, and they've only mustered 4 goals over the past two games. Mike Babcock wants to see more energy from his team and the Wings need to stop looking lost without Pavel Datsyuk in the lineup.

Detroit leads the season series 2-1, winning the first two games easily by scores of 3-0 and 5-2. Colorado won the most recent matchup in December 4-2. Johan Franzen leads the Wings in this series with 5 G, 0 A including a hat trick in the 5-2 win. Danny Cleary has 2 G, 2 A in the series. Gabriel Landeskog has put up 1 G, 2 A against Detroit ...

Red Wings Link Checks: 02/24/2012

The Detroit Red Wings home streak finally ended this week at 23 consecutive home game wins, the NHL's best. While many Wings fans where let down, we still can be proud of the amazing accomplishment our team has made this season. The ending winning streak is not the only big news the Wings had come to them this week, they also signed a two year contract with a current player and had a new player join the team.

Check out the recent articles on The Checking Line to check up with the Wings!

The Checking Line:

One wouldn't think the home winning streak coming to an end is a good thing. But, Kyle Busch explains to us why it actually is a good thing and tells us of the...

Deadline Decisions: Forwards

The Red Wings have achieved one of their two deadline goals with the acquisition of Kyle Quincey from Tampa Bay. Quincey gives the Red Wings 8 NHL-ready defensemen, a second point man for the 2nd power play unit and some more abrasiveness on the back end.

The Wings still seek some additional depth up front. At different times, the Red Wings' desires have been stated to be a scoring winger to flesh out the top-six or a gritty, defensive forward to provide a physical presence on the 3rd or 4th line. The Wings' performance in their two games since losing Pavel Datsyuk to injury cannot be encouraging. Detroit has looked disengaged at times and has trouble maintaining offen...

Wings look to continue home win streak against Vancouver

It's a showdown between the top two teams in the Western Conference, and right now the Red Wings lead the season series 2-1.

But a lot has changed since the last meeting between these two. The Red Wings have made history and now hold a 23 game consecutive win streak at the Joe. The Canucks are now only two points behind the Wings. And the Wings also happen to be without their star forward Pavel Datsyuk.

The 33 year-old is expected to miss a month after having surgery on his knee. Datsyuk 16 goals and 43 assists this season, so it is to no surprise that fans may be a bit nervous about his absence.

"Pav's been out before and he's a huge part of our team bu...

Last-Second Eurotwin Heroics Extend Streak

Tonight's game was a hard fought battle for two key points between division rivals. The game was close and had a playoff atmosphere. Before the game Detroit was ahead of Nashville by eight points but the Predators had a game in hand. Nashville was looking to catch St. Louis for second place in the Central and Detroit sought to put more space between them and 2nd seeded Vancouver. With the win Detroit extends their NHL record with their 22nd consecutive home win.

Detroit had the edge in performance and shots in the first, outshooting Nashville 14-9 in the opening period. Johan Franzen put Detroit on the board at 12:44 in the first with his team-leading 23rd goal off a spectacular...

Wings already have the record, the Central division remains

The Detroit Red Wings made history on Tuesday night with an NHL record, 21st consecutive win on home ice. For the most successful NHL franchise in the last 20 years, it appears that they have everything they could. Well....

Even with the Wings still owning the Central division, Western conference and NHL, the race is still very close, especially in the division.

As it stands now, the Central division's top 3 spots are within eight points of each other. Nashville has been playing well against their division counterparts ever since last season, but have lost two of the three contests against Detroit this season.

Detroit will need to deliver everything it ha...

Big Guns Lead the Path to History

The Red Wings are now in elite company, with twenty straight home wins with their tonight's win coming from strong performances by the Wings' top players. The top-six forwards and top-four defenseman all came away with at least one point except for Jiri Hudler.

Nicklas Kronwall opened the scoring with a blast from the point while Brayden Schenn sat in the box for tripping. The goal was originally credited to Bertuzzi but he didn't deflect is as initially thought but Bert and Hank provided the assists. Schenn redeemed himself late in the period when Danny Briere capitalized off a botched clear by MacDonald and passed it to Schenn who scored easily.

John Tavares Shines In NHL All Star Game

(Photo Credit: Official New York Islanders/Flickr)

The NHL All Star game is basically a chance for the NHL to sell itself to the fans by showcasing top level talent for two nights in a row. Fans are treated to highlight reel moves that you don't get to see in every hockey game as well as having the chance to become better acquainted with their on ice heroes. Several players are mic'ed up and provide commentary throughout the two nights, even while they are in game action, as seen with Montreal comedian/goaltender, Carey Price.

Price has become an excellent goaltender for the Canadiens and wasn't shy about showing off his personality, stopping a puck by facing the glass and using the reflection to help him guage his positioning as well as giving Islanders rep John Tavares a "Tim Tebow" as he came in for one of his shootout moves.

The Long Road Trip Starts in Montreal

Two of the most storied franchises in NHL history. A match up between Original Six teams. The final game before the All-Star break. All of these factors culminate in what might be one of the more underrated games in the season.

As the first half of the season has shown, these teams certainly don't have much in common at this point.

The Red Wings (8-2-0) are sitting on top of the NHL with a seven-game win streak, and 17 consecutive victories at home, a franchise record. They haven't been the strongest team on the road, but the momentum they have right now can only be easing that pain.

The Canadiens (4-4-2) are 12th in the Eastern conference and are trying to get o...

Bertuzzi: A Threat Nobody is Worried About

It's no secret to anyone who follows the Red Wings: they're a great team with a lot of talent.

It's also to nobody's surprise that this talented team is having a near-stellar season up to this point. The team's Thursday night victory over Phoenix sent them to the top spot in the division, conference and League.

Aside from the stellar performances by Jimmy Howard and Pavel Datsyuk, who else should other teams be concerned about when facing Detroit? The easy answer is everybody not named Jonathan Ericsson, but the player of interest for this feature is Todd Bertuzzi.

Big Bert, as fans and players know him, is far past his most productive seasons in the ...
