Game Preview: Flames vs Anaheim Ducks

The Flames are right back at it tonight with the Anaheim Ducks in town as the Flames finish off rare back-to-back home games to open their shortened 2013 season. The Flames will look for their first win of the season after a disappointing 4-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks last night at the Dome. The Ducks on the other hand come into Calgary after a great start in Vancouver, beating the Canucks 7-3 to add to the Canucks never ending goaltending questions. This will be the first of three meetings between the teams this season.

Game Preview: Flames vs Anaheim Ducks

Life for the Calgary Flames doesn’t get any easier tonight as they head into Anaheim to face the Ducks, to conclude their mini two-game road trip. The Flames return to Anaheim for the second time this season, a place where they haven’t won since 2004, going 0-9-5 during that stretch. This is the third of four meetings between the two clubs, as they have split the first two games, each winning on home ice. Both teams are scratching and clawing, trying to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Flames, after their victory in Phoenix last night, got within two points of the 8th place Dallas Stars, while the Ducks currently sit 7 points back.

Schenn on the way out?

As the end of January approaches, so too does a trade from Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke to bolster his team and elude the madness of the trade deadline.

Burke has stated publicly that he has at least one trade on the burner and he's in conversations with one or more teams. If he pulls the trigger on any deal, however, it will have to a) add size to the top-six unit, and b) upgrade the Leafs for this season as they make a push for the post-season. The only exception, Burke said hypothetically, would be to trade "a 22-year-old for another 22-year-old who plays a different position" in order to fill a need---like, for example, a lack of size in the top-...

CALGARY FLAMES (20-19-5 45 points) vs. ANAHEIM DUCKS (13-22-6 32 points) GAME #45

PREVIEW:

It wasn’t necessarily the prettiest of victories as the Flames were outshot 35-14 but the Flames could really do nothing but score as they managed to get the 2 points Tuesday night defeating the New Jersey Devils 6-3. It was the Flames second win in a row and 7th in a row at home, giving them good momentum as they host the Ducks down at the Dome tonight.

The Flames top line of Jarome Iginla, Olli Jokinen and Curtis Glencross continue to show why they’re the Flames number one line, combining for 9 points against the Devils. The trio will have to continue tha...

Burke will target Getzlaf, Ryan, Perry

The Anaheim Ducks are prepared for a roster overhaul, and its three star players in Bobby Ryan, Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf are available for the right price, according to Ducks general manager Bob Murray.

The news is a minor surprise as the Ducks are two points removed from being the worst team in the National Hockey League. Moreover, Ryan was available barely a month ago before Murray removed him from the trade market and instead hired head coach Bruce Boudreau in hopes of providing his club with a spark.

Nothing changed.
