Blackhawks host Stars on Sunday evening

The last time that the Blackhawks and the Stars played, it was opening night in Dallas - a 3-2 shootout win for Chicago on October 9th.

It was also one of the rare games where the opponent outshot the Blackhawks this season.

Both teams currently sit just outside the wild card cutoff, with Chicago (19) a few points ahead of the Stars (16) in the surprising Central Division. We'll say surprising mostly for two reasons: 1) even with Pekka Rinne's healthy return and a new coach behind the bench, nobody expected Nashville to be doing this well so early in the season; and 2) nobody expected Winnipeg to be sitting at 3rd in the Central, ahead of Chicago, Dallas, and...

Cast Away: Former Isles Contribute To New Teams In Playoffs

Although the New York Islanders missed the playoffs this season, many players that were dressed for the team and traded made significant contributions to their new team's post-season run to the Cup (Photo credit: Michael Cummo Photography/Flickr).

Hawks hand Blues first division loss in regulation

The Blues may be atop the Central Division at the moment, but it was their rivals the Hawks that walked away with a victory on Wednesday night at the UC.  Corey Crawford woud make 23 saves as the Hawks defeated the league-leading Blues in a 4-0 victory, their first division regulation-loss in the entire season.

The game was fast and physical from start to finish, and it was the Hawks who would get on the board first with a power play blast from...

Hawks fall short to Predators 3-2

The Chicago Blackhawks came into this game on the heels of a loss to a divisional foe. One would think that the cure is a win against another divisional opponent but unfortunately for the Blackhawks that did not happen as the Hawks lost again to another Central Division rival.

As we are coming down the home stretch every divisional win and loss is big and in a year where the Hawks surprisingly have not done well against their own division a loss against the Predators looms large.

The Hawks were outworked and lost every board battle in the first period. The energy and desire were absent. The results showed as Nashville was able to score twice on goals by Mike Fishe...

A closer look at Hawks' deadline moves

The trade deadline has come and passed for the 2014 season, and while the rest of the league was busy making blockbuster deals, the Hawks were quietly adding depth in a relatively low-key deadline. GM Stan Bowman has made similar moves like this in past few deadlines with minor acquisitions Michal Handzus last year and Johnny Oduya the year before, who, while not marquee names, were key role-players in the Hawk’s cup run last year.  At this year’s deadline, the Hawks got four new players- Peter Regin, David Rundblad, Pierre-Marc Bouchard, and Mathieu Brisebois.  Here’s a closer ...

Late push not enough as Hawks fall to Rangers

Six Blackhawks came home from Sochi with hardware, but their success at the Olympics didn’t translate back in the Hawk’s first game after the Olympic break as they fell to the Rangers 2-1 at Madison Square Garden.  The Ranger’s backup netminder Cam Talbot was outstanding, making 31 saves and outplaying Corey Crawford, who had 22 stops in a losing effort.

The Rangers would get on the board first after a back and forth first period that had good ...

Garth's Time To Shine

Garth Snow and the Islanders front office should not have gotten any sleep last night. They should be on the phone with every team in the NHL shopping their 2 biggest trade chips, Thomas Vanek and Andrew MacDonald. The compensation that the Isles receive for Vanek and MacDonald will determine Snow's legacy as the Isles GM. If he fails, the Islanders must move on to new leadership.(flickr/Nassau News Live)

Islanders Trade Deadline Preview

The NHL trade deadline is scheduled for March 5th, just a few days shy from officially being one month away. Typically, that would leave for plenty of hockey to be played between now and then, but that isn't the case this year with the Winter Olympics coming up in just a little over a week.

In fact, there are only seven NHL games to be played between now and then.

They currently hold a 21-28-8 record that is good for 50 points and 14th in the Eastern Conference. They are also 10 points away from the eighth placed Philadelphia Flyers.

With the Islanders having lost their last five games in a row, all signs point to this team becoming sellers at the deadline.

The (5 Games Past) Midseason Report-Islanders Edition

It has become incredibly clear that no matter what Garth Snow does this season it will either be hit or miss, home run or strike out, black or white. There has been no gray area for the 8 year Islander General Manager and finally his decisions appear to be trending in the right direction for the team again.

Who's Your Daddy? No Okposo No Problem; Isles Win Big

On a night that was called “the greatest night of my life” by the new first time dad Kyle Okposo, his teammate and good friend John Tavares had one of the best nights statistically of his brief NHL career.
