Is the Sixth Seed Detroit's Best Hope?

It may be difficult for some fans to acknowledge but Detroit is faltering in the late stages of the season and are looking less and less like a true playoff contender. Detroit is 2-6-2 in its last 10 games and has not regained its form since the return of Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Franzen and Howard.

The Nashville Predators beat Detroit easily 4-1 Friday night thanks to the strong play of Pekka Rinne and production from their recent additions. The Red Wings quickly lost their outside chance to catch the St. Louis Blues and take the Central Division title for themselves and are now one point behind Nashville and tied with Chicago, however the Wings do have a game in hand. Detroit is 2-3 aga...

Game Preview: Flames vs Phoenix Coyotes

It doesn’t get any closer than it is now in the Western Conference. Even with the Flames huge overtime victory against the Sharks on Tuesday, the Flames stayed in 10th place, in a three way tie for 9th place with the Sharks and the Los Angeles Kings. The Coyotes come into Calgary for the 4th and final meeting against the Flames after a big 5-4 victory over the Canucks last night in Vancouver. Since these two teams last met on Mar. 1st, the teams have once again gone in the opposite direction. At the time, Phoenix was coming off an unbelievable month of February where they went 11-0-1, while the Flames were on a 4-game losing streak. Since then, the Flames used that victory to go on their current 5-1-1 streak, while the Coyotes won just their second game in their past 8 last night in Vancouver. The two teams now sit just 3 points apart heading into this crucial four-point game.

Game Preview: Flames vs Phoenix Coyotes

When hot meets cold something has to give, that is the case tonight as the struggling Flames head into Phoenix to face the red-hot Coyotes. This is the third of four meetings between the clubs, with Phoenix taking the first two games including a 4-3 SO victory last Thursday at the Dome. The Flames squandered a 2-0 first period lead and lost their second of their current 4-game skid. The Coyotes probably don’t want February to end as they went a remarkable 11-0-1 and jumped from 12th in the West to 3rd and leading the Pacific Division. Tonight’s game in Phoenix, kicks-off a mini 2-game road trip for the Flames as they will head into Anaheim tomorrow night. The Flames will also look to snap their current 6-game losing streak against the Coyotes.

Game Preview: Flames vs Phoenix Coyotes

The Flames and Coyotes come into the Saddledome tonight for their second meeting of the season and to clash in crucial game number 61. The Coyotes came away with a 2-1 overtime victory on Feb. 9 in the Desert and will look for their 4th consecutive victory. The Coyotes are one of the hottest teams in the league going 8-1-1 in their past ten games. The Flames on the other hand will look to bounce back after an extremely disappointing 6-1 loss to their provincial rivals, the Edmonton Oilers. The Flames currently sit in 9th sitting a point back of the Los Angeles Kings and sit 4 points back of the 7th place Coyotes.

Olli Olli Oxen Free

Olli Jokinen and the Calgary Flames have had an interesting past three years to say the least.

Trading for him.

Trading him away in a bizarre situation.

Re-signing him five months later.

It's been odd. But now, he is the Flames leading scorer and has a contract expiring. What do you do with him?

Desert dogs chomp the Blackhawks

The last time the Blackhawks got shut out six times in a single season was 2006-07. You know, the year they went 31-42-9 with Khabibulin, Boucher & Lalime rotating in goal in a season that went 20-43-11-8.

As horrible as the 2010-2011 was, they were only shut out 4 times, and the first one wasn't until December 3rd. This season, the Hawks had been shut out three times by November 23rd - and still haven't registered one of their own.

Entering Saturday's game, the Blackhawks were 1-1-1 vs. the Coyotes and finish out the series 1-2-1. They have now dropped eight straight and have taken just one point since their January 20th win vs. the Panthers. Fortunately ...

Blackhawks Still Looking to Right Sinking Ship in Phoenix

It seems like eons since the Chicago Blackhawks have won a game, particularly on the road. They will hope to add a much needed two points to their total in the standings tonight when they're hosted by the Phoenix Coyotes.

After last night's defeat to the San Jose Sharks, the Blackhawks are now winless in their last seven games. A slump such as this comes at possibly the worst time in the season, as most playoff teams are separating themselves from the pack.

The Phoenix Coyotes, however, are enjoying a somewhat successful last ten games as they are 6-3-1 over that span. Phoenix has also taken the last two games against the Blackhawks in the season series, outscoring the...

Game Preview: Flames vs Phoenix Coyotes

It should be a playoff type atmosphere in Phoenix tonight as the Flames head into the Desert to play the Coyotes. This is the first of four meetings between the clubs this season, with all of them coming in the next five weeks. The Flames come into Phoenix to play the back-end of a back-to-back after defeating the San Jose Sharks 4-3 last night in the Shark tank. The Coyotes on the other hand come in tonight red hot, defeating the Dallas Stars on Tuesday 4-1, for their 3rd win in a row. The two teams are neck and neck in the playoff race as the Coyotes sit 9th with 58 points and the Flames now sit in 10th with 57 points after their victory last night. Depending on how Minnesota does against Vancouver tonight, the winner of this game could find themselves in the final playoff spot for the time being.

Pavel's A Game-Time Decision for Phoenix

The Red Wings happily return to Joe Louis tonight to take on the Phoenix Coyotes. Detroit seeks their 13th straight home win but may have to play another game without their top forward. Datsyuk will take the warmups to see if his groin has improved enough to play. If not Jan Mursak will probably make his season debut after returning from his conditioning stint in Grand Rapids.

Detroit needs to rebound after an unsightly 5-1 loss to the New York Islanders. The Wings hope to repeat their previous performance against Phoenix this season. Detroit glided to a 5-2 victory at the JLA after a 5 goal first period. The Coyotes were playing their third game in four nights and tonight's is ...

Islanders Looked Lost in the Desert; Fall to Phoenix 5-1

Another frustrating loss for the New York Islanders. Falling 5-1 to the Phoenix Coyotes for their second straight loss. A 1-2 road trip leads them to their next game, at home on Tuesday, against the Detroit Red Wings.

But let's talk about last night's game. It was yet another Islander game of the whole team just not having it. The team looked sloppy and just could not make a play. As for the Coyotes, being a team currently out of a playoff...
