Stars Visit the Canadiens

The Stars arrive in Montreal to meet the Habs in a Mardi Gras edition of Méchant Mardi; a night where the Habs have done well. Astonishingly, Mike Ribeiro will be playing his first game back in Montreal since being traded to Dallas for Janne Niinimaa and a pick (Andrew Conboy) back in September 2006. The Stars as a franchise have not played in Montreal in a long time - hint - Laraque scored in that game. I understand the reason for the schedule being non equal but seriously. It will be the first time the Bell Centre crowd gets to see the talented Jamie Benn among others.

The Stars are a young, fast team with good goaltending. Looking forward to a good goaltending battle of the Care...

Habs Shuffle off to Buffalo

Ten days left to the NHL trade deadline, and the 13th place Habs are shuffling off to Buffalo to meet the 14th place Sabres. Yes, a battle of the titans. Sabres were picked by many pundits to finish high in the eastern conference standings, but they've obviously proven not to be as good as advertised.

In their last game, mere hours before tonight's tilt, the Sabres would lose a 7-2 contest to the Flyers in what can only be described as a lack-luster performance. The Habs on the other hand are coming of one of their better performances of the season in their shootout loss to the Bruins two nights ago. In their last game, the Habs showed grit and determination, albeit in ...

Hurricanes arrive in Montreal

As the Hockey Day in Canada festivities from this past weekend become a fond memory for Habs fans, our attention now swings towards the Carolina Hurricanes, who are the visitors in tonight's tilt at the Bell Centre. It is a must win for both teams, as the Hurricanes currently sit in fifteenth place in the East, a measly four points behind the eleventh place Montreal Canadiens.

It is a game where all the clichés are applicable for both teams - put up or shut up - do or die - yada yada, we could go on. The game also marks (the face) Muller's return to Montreal for the first time since he was named head coach of the Hurricanes. I imagine the...

It's a Miracle - Gomez Scores - On A Power Play

The Montreal Canadiens visited the New York Islanders this evening for a tilt in the Nassau County Mausoleum. The scratches on the Habs side were the newly arrived Aaron Palushaj and the injured Yannick Weber (lower body). Earlier in the day the Catholic Diocese of Montreal called for all Catholics to pray for the redemption of the season for the Habs. It has worked before, after all, with 24 Stanley Cups for the team.

The first period began with a flourish for the visitors. Max Pacioretty streaked in on the right side and beat Evgeni Nabokov on a perfect shot over the goalie's shoulder for his twentieth of the season. The lone assist on the play went to Erik Cole. Both teams ex...

Game Day : Sabres @ Habs

It's a divisional showdown in Habs nation tonight where the Buffalo Sabres are ready to take on the Montreal Canadiens.

With Ryan Miller out of the lineup due to a disgusting hit from Bruins forward Milan Lucic, the Sabres will be rolling with Jhonas Enroth who, even before this incident occured, was creating some goaltender controversy in Buffalo.  While Ryan Miller has struggled in the first month of the season, Enroth has excelled.  Enroth has already won 5 of the 7 games he's appeared in and has a Sv% of .944.  Habs fans are no stranger to goalie controversy, having seen Jaroslav Halak almost take Carey Prices job away from him a few year...

Habs Escape Ottawa with Win

The Habs and the Senators played a spirited game in the nations capital. The Habs winning by the smallest of measures 2-1.

The first period was a tight affair Plenty of blocked shots on both sides. One penalty on each team. There should have been a penalty shot awarded for the Habs when a Senator defenseman grabbed the puck with his hand, closed it then tossed it out of harms way. On the whole it was a very defensive period and the shots on goal were Habs 10 and Senators 4.

The second period showed Cole and Kostitsyn scoring when they went to the net. The Senators did not have an answer defensively for the big bodies going to the net. After each goal the fourth lin...

Game 5 : Sabres @ Habs

Coming off a win in their last game, the Buffalo Sabres are in Habs nation tonight to face off in the first of six meetings between these division rivals.

While the Habs look for a much needed win, the Sabres are ready to keep things rolling as they have enjoyed a 3-1-0 start to the 2011-2012 NHL season.  Ryan Miller vs Carey Price.  This is a goaltender showdown.

If there is a game to turn things around, it's tonight for the Montreal Canadiens.  It what appears to be an early season slump, Montreal has struggled with consistency.  They don't look to be the defensively sound team they were last year.  It's still early in...

Leafs Continue To Lag Behind The Habs

No the icon attached to this blog isn't a mistake and the title isn't a joke, you've come to the right place. Yes it's true that I lost a bet to Prax and as punishment I owe him a blog for the Montreal Canadiens. The bet started at the beginning of last season when I was fooled enough by Brian Burke and company to believe that the Leafs would finish ahead of the Habs in the regular season standings. Prax quickly took the bet, and here we are.

The Leafs got off to a quick start and I too was quick to rub it in. Unfortunately the next part of the season was pretty rough for the Leafs with Giguere and Gustavsson in between the pi...
