Blackhawks Snuff Out Stars 5-2; Further Cement Western Conference Lead

Five different Blackhawks players scored, including Andrew Shaw with the game-winner, in a 5-2 Chicago victory over the Dallas Stars Monday night.

The Blackhawks (33-5-4) win was their third over Dallas (21-18-3) this year, sweeping the season series. The win was also Chicago’s sixth straight and moved them 11 points ahead of the idle Anaheim Ducks for the top spot in the Western Conference.

While Chicago was cementing its playoff position, Dallas was left wanting. The loss kept the Stars two points back of Detroit for the eighth playoff spot in the West, each team with just six games remaining. Columbus also sits two points ahead of Dallas, albeit with only...

Blackhawks romp to 8-1 win over Stars in Dallas

The Blackhawks are clearly ready to start another winning streak, as they took their second win in a row, this one an 8-1 romp over the Stars on Dallas ice.

It took Chicago more than six minutes to get their first recorded SOG, but after that, the floodgates were opened - the Blackhawks would outshoot the Stars 11-3 in the first period. Three of those would be goals: Jonathan Toews opened the scoring at 9:05, a redirect off a Leddy shot. Toews would score again under two minutes later to give Chicago a 2-0 lead; and then Nick Leddy shoveled in a goal on the Dallas doorstep to make it 3-0 with 2:06 left in the period.

Although the Blackhawks didn't score again unt...

Bachman, Fistric File for Arbitration

On Thursday evening, Dallas Stars goaltender Richard Bachman and defenseman Mark Fistric filed for salary arbitration prior to the 5 p.m., deadline on July 5.

This means that if the player and organization are unable to come to an agreement on a new deal, a hearing will occur between the team, the player and a third party salary arbitrator at some point between the dates of July 20 and August 4 to determine a new salary for the 2012-13 season.

Bachman valiantly stepped into the spotlight after Kari Lehtonen fell to an injury halfway through the year.

In his first season as backup, the 24-year old Salt Lake City native went 8-5-1 in 18 appearances, recorded a ....

Stars Fall In Winnipeg - Jets Win 5-2

Winnipeg - In a game that ended in a few misconducts, the Jets were able to take control of this game early, gain a valuable 2 points and handed Dallas their first regulation loss in 11 games with a 5-2 win on Wednesday night.

Sensational Stars head home after 3 wins in Canada

Things can change in a matter of days in the NHL. Last week, the Dallas Stars were struggling to string wins together and their hopes of the playoffs were slowly fading. The Stars have now won 7 of their last 8 and currently have the third playoff seed in the West.

The Stars' levels of commitment have been questionable over the course of the season, but during this recent stretch of success, I can’t fault the team one bit. They have played for one another, showing the intensity levels of a decent playoff team and getting the results they have truly deserved.

A good run of performances at home gave the Stars some momentum to carry across the border into Canada. All of...

The Stars' playoff hopes are fading

Heading into the 2011-12 campaign, not many Stars fans were sure of what lied ahead for their team with Brad Richards departing to New York and a rookie coach occupying the bench. With 59 games in the book, the inconsistent Stars currently sit tenth in the Western Conference and with time ticking, playoff hopes are slowly fading into the distance.

It has been a very frustrating season for Dallas supporters this season as the Stars look like a team with so much potential but have struggled to transfer that potential into points. Inconsistency has hurt the Stars throughout the season. To give you the picture, Dallas demolished the defending champions Boston in Texas, yet conceded 5 in...

Impressive Jamie Benn helps Stars to victory

It was all about young Canadian Jamie Benn in Texas this afternoon as he scored twice to help the Stars overcome the struggling Edmonton Oilers 4-1. Benn has hit a great run of form lately and is now seen as one of the best centres in the NHL by many. Rookie Richard Bachman got his first start in net for the Stars since Kari Lehtonen returned from injury.

After the Oilers absorbed some early pressure from the Stars on a great first shift, the opening the period turned out to be quite an even one. Edmonton had a good final few minutes in the first frame and they got a one goal lead as Taylor Hall somehow got a shot to loop agonisingly over the top of Bachman and into the net. With 9 ...

Isles Get Star Struck, Lose 3-2 To Dallas

The Islanders inability to score with the man-advantage and stay out of the penalty box would be the story for tonight's 3-2 loss to the visiting Dallas Stars. The Isles were 0-3 on the power play, two of which came at crucial moments where they needed to tie the game. Throw in their continuous trips to the sin bin and you have yourself a recipe for a poorly played hockey game.

Dallas Stars - New York Islanders Preview

The New York Islanders will welcome the Dallas Stars to Nassau Coliseum this evening to conclude the season series between the teams. Dallas, the current Pacific Division leaders, has exhibited some streaky form of late. Their 35 points, however, leave them eleven points better than the struggling Isles, though New York has played one fewer game.

Fresh off of 1-0 shutout of a the New York Rangers, coupled with some recent unsteadiness in the New York crease makes Dallas a significant favorite tonight.

Offense Sputters, Kings Drop 4th in a Row

Simon Gagne (12) looks defeated. His team has lost four in a row and six of their last eight.

Other headlines I considered include “Pretty in Purple, Ugly Everywhere Else” and “A Case of Extraordinary Indifference.” Both sum up tonight’s effort from the Kings fairly well and quite frankly, do a better job of describing the game so one’s eyes won’t have to look at the statistics.

The Kings lost to the Dallas Stars earlier tonight by a score of 2-1. They were outshot 28-27 and committed 10 penalties within the allotted 60 minutes of gameplay. Add that to the 13 giveaways registered by the home squad (all of which seemingly occurre...
