The 49 Million Dollar Goalie.

Today was Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne’s birthday; also, it was the day he signed a contract worth $49 million over 7 years with the Nashville Predators.

While this is a large contract for a goalie, it was a necessary step for the team as they must establish their team as one that can spend money and is willing to lock up core players. Rinne has been the team MVP both this year and last season and is now certainly being paid like it.

Coming into this season there were a lot of questions as to which or any of the big three for Nashville would stay. Rinne answered the call and was locked up long term; while the contract isn’t cheap, it isn’t a gross o...

Preds Losing Streak Shows serious Problems

Being a young team in NHL comes with its highs and lows, and the Predators have had a little of one and a lot of the other so far. After starting the season 2-0-0, with two wins against division rivals, the Predators have recently lost 4 in a row going 0-3-1 and giving up 16 goals in those loses.

The Predators decided this year to go through a youth movement while trying to match or better there great season last year. While all seemed good at the beginning, it has quickly turned sour for the Predators. While going on a 4 game losing streak at the beginning of the season is nothing new for the Preds who did it in 09-10, it is still something that you want to avoid, and ...

Preds defeat Jackets in Season Opener

Youth is going to be key this season for the Nashville Predators if they are going to have any sort of success.  Boasting the youngest listed roster in the NHL at 25.8, the Predators are in the midst of a youth movement, but they are still expected to compete this season.

They got off to a good start on opening night, defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 in a hard fought game that came down to the wire. With goals from Halischuk, Suter and Smith, the Preds were able to overcome Columbus in the first time these two teams had ever played each other in a season opener.

While the Predators did start slow with constant pressure by the Jackets, they were able to get o...

Since the ruling of the arbitration hearing, many people have started dreading the future of Nashville Predators as it’s filled with many question marks and uncertainty regarding its three best players. While the situation is far from perfect, all I have read lately is mostly looking at the negative side, what happens than so instead I’m going to look at the positives and my take on the future.

Weber was awarded a hefty salary of $7.5 million this year making him one of the top paid defenseman in the league which goes along with his status of being one of the top players. With the price tag many assume that the Predators can’t afford it and therefore h...

Will 2011-2012 Predators Offense have more bite?

Last season while a good year for the Predators, really showed what the team lacked and needed going forward to really be a serious cup contender. Many say that the Predators are just one top six forward away from that goal, and many fans hoped this offseason Poile would go out and grab one for the team. Unfortunately he has not done that yet, but has said that if the opportunity arises he will pull the trigger, but until than the team has what it has.

Last year the team ranked 21st in the NHL in goals per game and 22nd in total goals for the regular season. In the playoffs they had sufficient scoring against the Ducks, a team lacking defence and a goalie at the time, bu...
