Hawks stumble in 3-2 Shootout loss

Coming into this game the Blackhawks had absolutely nothing to play for other than their pride and improving themselves and continuing a seven game winning streak. The Phoenix Coyotes on the other hand were fighting for their playoff lives and had everything to play for.

The Blackhawks have to be commended for their character and focus. Everyone knows these games mean nothing to them and are really just glorified practices since they clinched their division and conference. They still managed to gain a point and come from behind to tie the game up and push the game to overtime and eventually the shoot out.

Game Day: New York Rangers @ Phoenix Coyotes

After a disappointing 4-1 showing against Anaheim, the Phoenix Coyotes rebounded nicely against the Edmonton Oilers, winning that game by a score of 4-2 after having fired 42 shots at Devan Dubnyk, ending a three-game skid in the process.  Tonight, a rare visitor enters Jobing.com Arena as the New York Rangers and the Coyotes face off exactly a year and a day since the Rangers rallied to take the December 16th, 2010 meeting in a shootout, 4-3.

The Rangers are coming off a 4-1 loss against St. Louis but are 6-3-1 in their last ten games. After this game, they move on to New Jersey, then play host to the Islanders and Flyers before heading to Washington and Flor...

Game Day: Phoenix Coyotes @ Nashville Predators

Last night the Phoenix Coyotes almost let one slip away, going up 3-0 on the Chicago Blackhawks before being forced into a shootout situation that saw Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Radim Vrbata and Mike Smith step up and seal the deal for a 4-3 win. Tonight, they face the Nashville Predators for the last time until March 12th, 2012, and despite their 14-9-3 record, are at least in some part conscious of the last not-too-distant time they faced off against them--a Pekka Rinne lights out night that handed them a 3-0 loss.

Game Day: Montreal Canadiens @ Phoenix Coyotes

The Montreal Canadiens are coming off of a 3-1 loss against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night, and head into Jobing.com Arena as the first team the Coyotes have faced since they beat those same Oilers 4-2 on Saturday night.  Phoenix, however, are winless against Montreal through the last 11 games between the two.  Tonight's matchup also happens to be the 2500th against the Canadiens since the beginning of the Jets'/Coyotes' franchise.

The Canadiens are 4-5-1 in their last stretch of ten games, including four wins in a row, whereas Phoenix has hopped up to 8th spot in the Western Conference after going 6-3-1 in their last ten.  This is the last time Phoenix...

Game Day: Dallas Stars @ Phoenix Coyotes

The Coyotes will look to play a full, consistent 60 minutes tonight to avoid the same fate as their last two meetings against the Stars.  Loui Eriksson scored with 28 seconds remaining on October 10th to send the game into overtime and ultimately procure his team two points.  Jamie Benn was a similar culprit on March 1st, except he scored with 4.8 seconds left in the game.  The last five matchups between these two teams have been decided by one goal.  This one gets underway at 7 p.m. Arizona time at Jobing.com Arena.

The fifteenth season of the Phoenix Coyotes is finally set to kick off tonight as they host the San Jose Sharks at 7:30 p.m. PST. As per the usual recipe, many questions surrounding the franchise continue to bubble up to the surface, the most prevalent of which was the focus of the Coyotes’ new ad campaign launched this week.
