Nash, Callahan too much for Flyers

Despite a strong first period, Ryan Callahan and Rick Nash proved to be too much as the Rangers downed the Flyers 4-2 on Tuesday night.

With the game tied at two early in the second period, Nash wristed a scorching shot that beat goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov on the blocker side to give the Rangers a 3-2 edge.

Nash added another goal about eight minutes later as he got behind the Flyers defense and scored to put the game out of reach.

Rangers Host Flyers at MSG

The Flyers travel to MSG to take on the Rangers. They look to attain their first three-game winning streak of the season against one of their biggest Atlantic Division rivals.

Lundqvist, Rangers Foil Flyers

NEW YORK -- It was too little too late for the Flyers.

The Rangers and Henrik Lundqvist staved off a resurgent Flyers team, holding on to win 2-1 in a wild game at Madison Square Garden. The score reflected their first meeting last Thursday, this time with a different result.

The Flyers were flat from the opening face off. The Rangers controlled the puck and the flow, keeping the action in the Flyers half of the ice.

TCL Round 1 Staff Predictions: New York Rangers vs. Ottawa Senators

( 1 ) NEW YORK RANGERS vs. ( 8 ) OTTAWA SENATORS

Not a lot of people expected the Ottawa Senators to be one of only two Canadian teams that managed to make the playoffs this season. In fact, in the "normal" NHL universe, the Canadiens and Sens would probably be in each others positions. The Sens started the season with people assuming they were at the beginning of a rebuild, with GM Bryan Murray half-blowing things up the prior off-season. But then something happened. The Sens top players started playing like... well... top players. Alfredsson was on his game as rumors of retirement grew bigger and bigger. Jason Spezza became a dominant center once again. And the...

Wings lose in OT; Extend losing streak to 6

It was a frustrating night for the Detroit Red Wings...again.

Ryan Callahan scored the OT winner with a perfect assist from Michael Del Zotto to give the Wings their sixth consecutive loss. So what went wrong?

The Wings showed a poor display of defense tonight, especially in the third period, leaving Callahan with 8 total shots on goal. The Wings also looked very slow in the third, leaving Ty Conklin virtually all by himself in the net.

But that wouldn't phase Conklin too much as he had 32 saves along with .942 save percentage in the game. Safe to say he was the Wings strongest player tonight.

The Wings were scored on in their first penalty kill attempt, but th...

Islanders Defeat Rangers 4-3, Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

The stage was set for an emotional carry over into Saturday morning regardless of the outcome of Friday night's Islanders/Rangers game; a win for the Isles against their biggest rival and top team in the Eastern Conference would keep their playoff hopes alive, but a loss to their number one foe would have been a crushing blow to their confidence and chances.

Fortunately, the orange and blue would come on top with a 4-3 shootout victory with Matt Moulson netting the finally tally in the fourth round.

Tensions were high at the start of the game and Matt Martin decided to ease things up a bit by fighting Stu Bickel just over two minutes into the game. Both got their licks in before Martin swung and missed, falling to the ice to end the fight early. A fair draw would set the tone for how evenly the game would be played.

Isles and Rangers Face Off at the Garden

The Islanders are heading into the Big Apple to face their archrivals, the New York Rangers. Coming off back-to-back shootout wins (courtesy of Frans Neilsen and his patented forehand-backhand-top shelf move), the young Isles team is carrying a bit of momentum into the World’s Greatest Arena. They are playing with more confidence and finding ways to win hockey games.

This is a good thing. Because they will need every ounce of momentum, confidence, skill, (and maybe even a little luck) to leave Madison Square Garden with 2 points against the Rangers in tonight’s contest.

The Rangers (with 3 games in hand) are currently tied for 2nd in the Atlantic Division with the Pittsburgh Penguins, as they each have managed 42 points so far this season.

Game Day: New York Rangers @ Phoenix Coyotes

After a disappointing 4-1 showing against Anaheim, the Phoenix Coyotes rebounded nicely against the Edmonton Oilers, winning that game by a score of 4-2 after having fired 42 shots at Devan Dubnyk, ending a three-game skid in the process.  Tonight, a rare visitor enters Jobing.com Arena as the New York Rangers and the Coyotes face off exactly a year and a day since the Rangers rallied to take the December 16th, 2010 meeting in a shootout, 4-3.

The Rangers are coming off a 4-1 loss against St. Louis but are 6-3-1 in their last ten games. After this game, they move on to New Jersey, then play host to the Islanders and Flyers before heading to Washington and Flor...

Battle For New York: Islanders vs Rangers

Preview:  The New York Islanders return home to Nassau Coliseum to take on their all-time rival, the New York Rangers.

The Islanders are coming off a western road trip which saw them give up a 3 goal lead in an overtime loss to the Avalanche, and a clinic put on by the Canucks in a loss to Vancouver.  The Islanders have played better hockey since changing up their offensive lines a few games ago, putting up more scoring chances more consistently.  However, they haven’t been able to translate the better play into wins.  A win tonight against the Rangers would mean even more than usual, as it would end a slide of losing efforts.

The Rangers ...
