The Hawks and Canucks rivalry has dimmed over the last year as the teams have not faced each other in two consecutive playoff series. Tonight, however, the hockey didn’t disappoint and the game was fast and fiesty as the Hawks came from behind to take a 2-1 win. The game was fast and tight, with a battle between goalies Corey Crawford and Roberto Luongo, who went head to head and made 36 and 27 saves, respectively.
The New York Islanders wrapped up their homestand with a battle against the Vancouver Canucks. They are a rare opponent for the Isles. But, the man behind the bench for the Canucks is a familiar face. John Torterella, the former coach of the New York Rangers, is now leading the way for Vancouver
Despite outplaying the Vancouver Canucks on both ends of the ice, the Philadelphia Flyers came out on the losing end of Tuesday evening's game.
Ryan Kesler rammed home the rebound of a Chris Higgins shot that gave Vancouver the 3-2 lead and eventual victory. It was the Flyers' third straight loss as they dropped to 1-6-0.
With 2:25 left, Higgins ripped a shot off a beautiful pass from defenseman Dan Hamhuis and Kesler was able to coral the rebound. It was Kesler's second goal of the game and gave Kesler and Higgins each a two-point night.
Flyers goaltender Steve Mason made the initial save and gave a phenomenal diving effort to try and stop the shot.

The Flames and Canucks renew their rivalry tonight in the last of five meetings between the clubs. So far the Canucks have had the Flames number winning three of the first four games, including a 5-2 victory at Rogers Arena on Saturday night.
When the Vancouver Canucks come to town, it's always some of the most entertaining hockey of the season. The Blackhawks-Canucks rivalry is one of the most intense in the NHL.
The Blackhawks are on the verge of a record: they've already tied for the second-best start in league history (points in 15 games); with at least one more point in Tuesday's game, they'll tie for best. If they can avoid losing in regulation between now and Saturday, it's a new high for the books. Until the Blackhawks lose in regulation, they may be wearing a bigger target on their backs than the Los Angeles Kings are, as defending Stanley Cup champs.
Over the past four seasons, the Chicago Blackhawks and Vancouver Canucks have had one of the most heated and entertaining rivalries in hockey. The rivalry is even commemorated by the Canucks with a statue outside Rogers Arena dedicated to a famous moment in the 1982 Blackhawks-Canucks Western Conference Final.
Their rivalry goes back for many years, and has resurged lately, as the teams have faced each other multiple times in the playoffs. The Blackhawks managed to knock the Canucks out of a Cup run in 2009 and 2010; and in 2011, Vancouver beat Chicago in overtime in game 7 of an exciting first-round series.
The two teams will face each other only three times this se...
Despite being dead last in the Eastern Conference and going 3-6-1 in their last 10, the Montreal Canadiens just completed a roadtrip that saw them earn 5 out of a possible 8 points. One could even say they've opened up and started to (dare I say it?) have fun with one month left to go in the regular season, now that less pressure is weighed on their shoulders.
Near-Comeback: Tuesday, March 6th, 2012
The Calgary Flames outscored the Canadiens 4-2 through the first two periods, and Curtis Glencross added an unassisted marker to start the third, but the momentum switched over quickly as Lars Eller and Max Pacioretty each...
The Red Wings will attempt to rise above .500 on the road and be the first to win a road game in their season series with Vancouver tonight. The teams have split the season series with both teams winning at home, Detroit 2-0 and Vancouver 4-2. Both teams are playing well, Detroit has won eight of nine and Vancouver was 7-2-2 in January. The Red Wings hold a 3 point lead over the Canucks for the top seed in the West.
A win can put Detroit five points ahead of #2 Vancouver in the West and #4 Nashville for the Central lead. The Red Wings have also won three of their last five games at Rogers Arena.
Todd Bertuzzi is the only Red Wing with multiple points against Vancou...
Looking at this new season, there are many people poised to breakout in some way. The breakout scorers and breakout goaltenders and breakout defensemen will have plenty of articles written about them. However, there is one role that frequently goes unsung, defensive forwards. Called by many names: grinders, PK-guys, third liners, depth forwards, these players are the unsung heroes of any team. One of them is poised to break out and possibly challenge for the Selke award as the best defensive forward this season. This player is Chicago Blackhawks forward Dave Bolland, Blackhawks Captain Jon Toews was a shocking Selke nominee last season. The word s...
Penguins fans walked away in May after a stunning series loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning wondering what had happened to their team. One power play goal. No Sidney Crosby. No Evgeni Malkin. And no single explanation for how they let a 3-1 lead slip away.
The 2010-11 season was defined by everything the Penguins overcame – notably significant, long-term injuries to their three top centers, the Sid-Geno-Jordan (Crosby-Malkin-Staal) triumvirate that was the backbone of the team’s championship hopes – and in the end it was Pittsburgh that yielded when they should’ve stood strong. The firs...
