The Minnesota Wild's Summer

As the summer draws to a close so too does the Minnesota Wild’s most exciting offseason in history. In addition to the well publicized Zach Parise, Ryan Suter Fourth of July signings, the Wild added needed depth in forwards Zenon Konopka and Torrey Mitchell. They also re-signed steady backup net minder Josh Harding to below market value.

The result has been a boost of optimism for a club that so desperately needed it.

All parties involved-ownership, management, players, and fans- watched as the team slowly came down from the high of a promising start for their franchise. In the Wild’s first ten seasons, they qualified for the postseason three times, won a divi...

Shea Weber Offer Sheet: Nashville Predators Debate Ability To Match, According To Report

According to a report from TSN’s Darren Dreger, it is expected that more meetings will take place between Nashville Predators owners as they decide whether or not to match Shea Weber’s offer sheet. The organization has until 11:30pm EST on Wednesday to make their decision.

Dreger reports that many around the NHL don’t believe the team will be able to match the Philadelphia Flyers’ offer of $110 million for 14 years. Nashville would have to pay Weber $27 million in the first year alone if they were to match.

Minnesota Wild: Ryan Suter's new Defense Partner

If reports coming out of Philly and Nashville are true, Ryan Suter’s old defense partner is set to make 27 million dollars this upcoming calendar year.

His new defense partner? $535,000

The Star Tribune’s Mike Russo reports that Jared Spurgeon will pair with  Suter to form the Wild’s top defensive tandem.

Spurgeon certainly has large skates to fill, literally and figuratively. Suter has been skating with perennial Norris Trophy candidate Shea Weber in Nashville over the past few seasons where the 6’4”, 232 pound behemoth complimented his steady partner with a booming slap shot and a strong physical presence.

Spurgeon ...

Minnesota Wild: Five to watch at Prospect Camp

Minnesota Wild fans will have to wait until at least September to watch their prized additions like Zenon Konopka and Torrey Mitchell hit the ice. It is likely that Ryan Suter and Zach Parise will suit up then too.

All jokes aside, this is an exciting time for the Wild and their fans. Suter and Parise will lead the team into contention for years to come. Fans can get a glimpse of some of their future teammates at this week's Prospect Development Camp.

The Green/White scrimmages will be open to the public Thursday and Sunday. If you cant make it to St. Paul you could always check out a local squirt tournament where you might find Suter's future "D" partn...

Free Agency 2012: Should the Red Wings go after Alexander Semin or Shane Doan?

With Zach Parise locked up in Minnesota for the next 10 years, the list of remaining free agent power forwards has trickled down to only a handful, and the Red Wings are looking for someone to fill in a gap without having to sacrifice their own players in a trade for a forward still locked in a contract.

Carolina Hurricanes Top Two Free Agent Targets Get Away

The top Hurricane free agent targets seemed to have slipped away from the grasps of management as the fourth of July rolled by. The Canes were hoping that the recently added Jordan Staal brother star-power would lead more free agents to Raleigh for the possibility of winning a Stanley Cup.

Zach Parise and Ryan Suter were high targets of the Canes and each found themselves finding work in another place. Who knew that Minnesota would become the home of both of the guys that Carolina was targeting?

Both guys are from the Midwest, and having a chance to spend more time with family was a vital part of the decisions of both men. Parise is from Minnesota and Suter is from bordering s...

UFAs Gone Wild: Wings Weep as Suter, Parise Land in Minnesota

It is a worrisome day for Wings fans.

After all the hype and nigh-certainty that the two biggest names on the UFA market were coming to Hockeytown for a run at the Cup, Detroit fans were shocked to hear that Zach Parise and Ryan Suter have both signed with the Minnesota Wild,

The two highly-touted free agents both landed matching 13-year, $98 Million contracts.

Free Agency 2012: Wild land Parise and Suter

One can name the Wild’s greatest moments on a single hand: the unveiling of the nickname in 1998, the first home game in 2000, and a Western Conference finals birth in 2003 that came on the back of two separate 3-1 series comebacks.

Since then, the mood has dampened where the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers converge. Former fan favorite Sergei Zholtok, a key contributor on the famed 2003 team, passed away during the lockout in 2004. Star forward Marian Gaborik, the team’s first draft pick, departed for New York in 2009 after showing only flashes of his talent through an injury plagued stint with the Wild.

Then tragedy struck last summer. Derek Boo...

Free Agency 2012: Zach Parise and Ryan Suter Both Sign With Minnesota Wild

The two biggest free agents on the market this summer have made their decision, and their decision is Minnesota.

It was announced early Tuesday afternoon that both Zach Parise and Ryan Suter have agreed to terms with the Minnesota Wild, both for 13-year, $98 million deals.

Parise, the former captain of the New Jersey Devils, scored 404 points in 502 games over seven seasons with the Devils. After suffering from a season-ending injury last season, he had a successful comeback season, with 69 points in 82 games. He led his team to Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals, where they ultimately lost to the Los Angeles Kings.

Zach Parise Rumors: No Decision Yet for The Free Agent

According to a report from Michael Russo of the Star Tribune, unrestricted free agent Zach Parise has returned to his native Minnesota and has not yet made a decision on where he will sign.

It had been assumed that Parise's decision had been made when it was announced that he would meet with reporters on Monday afternoon. Parise merely told reporters that a decision had not been made and that he would not put a deadline on when he would choose.

The teams rumored to be in the running for Parise are the New Jersey Devils, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Philadelphia Flyers, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Detroit Red Wings, and his hometown Minnesota Wild.
