Power Play Woes Continue as Capitals Sink Canadiens 3-0

The Bell Centre welcomed back a familiar face on Wednesday night, as Roman Hamrlik made his return to Montreal for the first time since signing with the Capitals in the offseason.

First things first, though: a more unusual kind of retribution. Rene Bourque, just two games removed from a suspension for a hit on Washington's Nicklas Backstrom when he was still with the Calgary Flames, expected to be confronted regardless of his new uniform. Sure enough, barely a minute into the opening twenty, he went at it with the Caps' Matt Hendricks ....and that was that.

Game Day: Pittsburgh Penguins Vs. Montreal Canadiens

Pittsburgh Penguins Vs. Montreal CanadiensBell Centre

Montreal, Quebec

The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Montreal Canadiens will both play their 24th games tonight.  The season is over quarter of the way over.  The newness of the season, the apprehension of how the new players will fit in and the tension of how each team will start is over.  Now it’s time to honestly look at the team and see exactly where each stands.

I am sure you have heard this before but to start with we must remember that the Penguins have been without the league’s best player, Sidney Crosby, for most of the season.  The Habs have been without Andrei Markov and a slew of secon...

Habs Look to String Wins Together, Get One in Carolina

Coming into tonight’s head-to-head with the Hurricanes, the Montreal Canadiens hadn’t put two of anything together since the Western road trip that saw them beat the Coyotes and Predators two weeks ago. And it stopped there.

In the first period of this game, a significant portion of Habs’ fans had their eyes on the Bruins/Sabres rematch, and it was difficult to blame them.  Jiri Tlusty opened the scoring within the first minute of the game and Anthony Stewart made it 2-0 for the Hurricanes at the 6-minute mark.  For the remainder of the opening frame, the Can...

Power Play Practice Pays off

The New York Rangers paid a visit to the Bell Centre in Montreal. The game featured some nice hitting on both sides and some power play opportunities. The Rangers never got on track in this contest.

Power play goals by Cole and Plekanec paved the way for the Habs dominated game. Carey Price made 17 saves to record his second shutout in as many games played.

The young, inexperienced defenders were certainly up to the task of protecting Price and the net. Emelin once again did some hitting and sound positional play.  Crisp clean clearing passes were the order of this evening.

This game featured two goals by the Captain and these were set up by the much-mal...

And the Montreal Canadiens are on the verge of winning the Stanley Cup…again.  Yes, we all have been taught not to start a sentence with “and” but this week has just seems like one big long game.  If you could go back to Wednesday morning and ask anyone if the Habs would be on the verge of winning three in a row come Saturday you would get some laughs, some snickers and the occasional French swear word.

It’s Saturday and believe it or not the Habs do have a chance to win three in a row beating both the hated Bruins and Flyers.  As we bask in the glow of a glorious week...

Game Day : Flyers @ Habs

The Montreal Canadiens look to end their six game losing streak tonight as they host the Philadelphia Flyers at the Bell Center.

It seems home games are no advantage to the Habs this season, they have yet to win any of them.  Fans, media and the players themselves can't seem to stop their heads from spinning.

There is a pile of reasons that can contribute to their lack of success, but it seems that the coaching staff is taking most of the heat.  I won't go on to much about that but take a look at what George Prax had to say about it.

The Flyers have chemistry.  What's chemistry you ask? Well, its when 3 players on a line lear...

The Hype Is Over

Game DayMontreal Canadiens Vs. Winnipeg JetsMTS Centre

Winnipeg, Manitoba

Ever since the National Hockey League announced the return of the Winnipeg Jets, all anyone who is a hockey fan has been waiting for is opening day.  If the return of Jets wasn’t enough, the league decided to bring in the most storied franchise as their first opponent:  the Montreal Canadiens.  The summer of logo and sweater unveilings, new coach hirings and player signings is over and now real life in Winnipeg begins.  The hype is over and now it’s time to drop the puck.

Off-Season Rankings: The Top Six Forwards

Late last summer, I ranked, scored, and projected all the players on the Montreal Canadiens in four glorious posts, based on their prior season’s performance, and what was expected for them in 2010-11. Some players missed those expectations, others exceeded them, some were of course traded off the team.

With the new season fast approaching, it’s time, once again, to rank your Montreal Canadiens, and look at what we should expect from each of them in the new year. Today, we look at the top six forwards. We’ll then move on to the “best of the rest” of the forwards, the defense, goaltending, and finally, management and t...
