Steve Mason is continuing his strong case as the Flyers top goaltender for next season.

On a night honoring the city of Boston with pregame festivities, auctioned jerseys and a rousing edition of "Sweet Carolina," Mason stole the show to stone the Bruins and give the Flyers a huge win.

Mason stopped 39 shots for his third win in a Flyers jersey, leading the Flyers to a 5-2 win Tuesday night.

The Flyers found themselves in a tough position this past offseason, and that was whether to re-sign Jaromir Jagr or not.

The cons of bringing back the 41-year-old right winger out-weighed the pros for the Flyers front office at the time and the decided to part ways with the future Hall of Famer. They were concerned about his age and health during another long season, two factors the Flyers saw first-hand during the 2011-12 season.

Unfortunately for them, they made their decision before it was known there would be a 48-game season as opposed to the normal 82-game schedule due to a lockout and it may have cost the Flyers big time.

Jagr made his decision where to go in the off season, signing with the Dallas Stars for a one-year, $4.55 million back in July, well before it was even known what fate the 2012-2013 season would have.

It's going to be a longer off season for the Flyers than they're used to.

Among the topics heading into the off season is the job security of head coach Peter Laviolette. In an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren reassured the safety of his head coach.

"I haven't even thought along those lines," Holmgren told The Inquirer in a phone conversation. "I think it's been a difficult year because of the situation. We haven't had our whole team all year. I don't blame the coaches.

Being in the right place at the right time finally paid off for Scott Hartnell this season.

Hartnell made that his living last season when he scored a team-high 37 goals. This year, he has four goals in 17 games, and had only one in the 11 games leading into last night.

Last night, Hartnell scored twice, including the game-tying goal with 30 seconds left in the Flyers 4-3 shoot-out loss to the Islanders. He even dropped the mitts with Colin McDonald, who also had two of New York's goals.
