Mason Stones Bruins in 5-2 Win

Steve Mason is continuing his strong case as the Flyers top goaltender for next season.

On a night honoring the city of Boston with pregame festivities, auctioned jerseys and a rousing edition of "Sweet Carolina," Mason stole the show to stone the Bruins and give the Flyers a huge win.

Mason stopped 39 shots for his third win in a Flyers jersey, leading the Flyers to a 5-2 win Tuesday night.

Flyers Honor Bruins Tonight

The Flyers will honor the city of Boston tonight with patches, decals and donations. But it will all be business once the puck drops against one of their inter-division rivals.

Jagr's Presence Missed in Philly; Returns Tuesday

The Flyers found themselves in a tough position this past offseason, and that was whether to re-sign Jaromir Jagr or not.

The cons of bringing back the 41-year-old right winger out-weighed the pros for the Flyers front office at the time and the decided to part ways with the future Hall of Famer. They were concerned about his age and health during another long season, two factors the Flyers saw first-hand during the 2011-12 season.

Unfortunately for them, they made their decision before it was known there would be a 48-game season as opposed to the normal 82-game schedule due to a lockout and it may have cost the Flyers big time.

Jagr made his decision where to go in the off season, signing with the Dallas Stars for a one-year, $4.55 million back in July, well before it was even known what fate the 2012-2013 season would have.

Hartnell's Hat Trick, Three-Point Nights for Giroux, Voracek Lead Flyers

The Flyers offense woke up in a big way, but it may have been little too late.

With playoffs well out of reach, the Flyers exploded out of their four-game losing skid and scoring funk to beat the Canadiens, 7-3, Monday night.

The Flyers have had a problem with scoring lately but they shook that off early. Just over two minutes into the game, Wayne Simmonds created a scoring chance to put the Flyers up 1-0.

Simmonds followed his own rebound with another shot on net. The puck was then deflected in off the stick of Sean Couturier to get past Carey Price to put the Flyers on the board first.

Holmgren Tells Inquirer Laviolette Will Not Get Fired

It's going to be a longer off season for the Flyers than they're used to.

Among the topics heading into the off season is the job security of head coach Peter Laviolette. In an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren reassured the safety of his head coach.

Via Sam Carchidi's article this morning:

"I haven't even thought along those lines," Holmgren told The Inquirer in a phone conversation. "I think it's been a difficult year because of the situation. We haven't had our whole team all year. I don't blame the coaches.

Habs Host Skidding Flyers

The Flyers travel to Montreal in hopes of ending their four-game losing streak. It won't be easy though because Montreal is a great home team as well as looking to lock up second place in the Eastern Conference.

Playing With Hart: Flyers Get A Spark From Hartnell In Loss

Being in the right place at the right time finally paid off for Scott Hartnell this season.

Hartnell made that his living last season when he scored a team-high 37 goals. This year, he has four goals in 17 games, and had only one in the 11 games leading into last night.

Last night, Hartnell scored twice, including the game-tying goal with 30 seconds left in the Flyers 4-3 shoot-out loss to the Islanders. He even dropped the mitts with Colin McDonald, who also had two of New York's goals.

Flyers Can't Hold Lead; Lose to Islanders In Shoot-Out

Failure to hold a lead once again did the Flyers in.

The Flyers blew a 2-0 lead in the final 21 minutes of the game to drop their fourth straight, losing 4-3 in a shootout. Though the Flyers managed to tie the game in the final minute of play, they overall blew an opportunity at two important points.

"I think once they came out, they had some power plays early, we gave them two power plays early and we gave them a little zone time, they scored a goal," head coach Peter Laviolette said. "It seemed like we stopped playing, but we stopped pressing offensively like we had been. It was like we were trying to defend that lead as opposed to getting the next goal."
