Ten NHL 13 Spin-Off Pitches For EA and Your NHL Lockout

With an NHL lockout looming, fans all across North America are stumped trying to figure out what they're going to do for the next eight months if Gary Bettman and the League of Shadows NHL owners decides to lock out the players after the September 15th deadline. Of course, you can play a few rounds of NHL 13, set to hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 11th, but that game can only last you so long. Personally, I get tired of those games a couple of weeks after I tear off the shrink wrap. But the NHL lockout and, quite frankly, gamers with short attention spans shouldn't mean that EA should be worried about their sales. Instead, they shoul...

After over a month and twelve games if the team you supported was 500 would you be happy?  If the team you followed was average without having its top defenceman in the line-up would you be happy?  Well that is where the Montreal Canadiens are.  They are just an average team sitting just out of a playoff position.  How they got here is a different story but how they move forward is more important.

The eminent off and on return of the Andrei Markov which was the big story two weeks ago has been forgotten.  P.K. Subb...

What a Weird Weekend

All I can say is wow! Yeah, it's Halloween weekend but what the hell is up with the Rangers? First, they drop a game to Ottawa in which they led 4 - 1 with roughly 12 minutes left. Ottawa tallied three straight before downing the Rangers in the shootout. Not a good start to the weekend there.

Next we had news of all the roster shuffling. With Tim Erixon struggling some and only seeing seven-plus minutes of ice-time Saturday, the best thing to do is to send him down to Hartford (which they did) and let him get 20+ minutes and playing in all situations.

News of Erixon's demotion brought on the inevitable hopes/prayers that the move was due to a miraculous and ultra...

Thoughts on Staal, Simmonds and Avery

The Marc Staal situation is still no clearer today than it was weeks ago. At this point he is still in the States practicing with the Rangers AHL affiliate in Connecticut while his teammates are continuing the exhibition season in Europe. The question is when will Staal be ready to play.

Obviously the Rangers need Staal if they expect to challenge for the Atlantic Division crown. Given how much he plays against the opposition's best, a lengthy absence will force the Blueshirts to use inferior or more inexperienced defenders to counter some of the most skilled players in the league. For a team that relies so heavily on playing good defensively not having Staal in the lineup is a ...

Dubi, Dubi, Done

The New York Rangers took care of what looked to be their most challenging item of business this summer; signing F Brandon Dubinsky to a long-term deal ahead of his arbitration hearing. Well, mission accomplished as the Blueshirts and Dubinsky agreed to a four-year deal worth a total of $16.8 million. In actuality, the arbitration hearing scheduled for 9:00 AM Thursday was postponed because both parties felt they were close to an agreement. It was imperative the deal get done without an arbitration hearing being held and that's exactly what happened.

Why is arbitration such a bad thing, anyway? In order to convince the arbitrator the player is only worth the salary figure the te...
