Blackhawks Fall to Visiting Oilers 6-5 for their Second Regulation Loss of the Season

The Chicago Blackhawks (21-2-3) suffered their second consecutive regulation loss Sunday night in a 6-5 barnburner against the visiting Edmonton Oilers (9-11-5), trading in their 24 game points streak for a 2 game pointless streak. After looking sluggish for most of their 6-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche just two days prior, the Blackhawks continued to appear as though they were skating through quicksand, surrendering four first period goals to a young Edmonton squad that had lost five straight games entering the night’s contest. The Oilers, having been shutout in their previous two outings, scored their first goal in nearly 168 minutes just 2:24 into the opening frame on S...

Blackhawks Look to End Homestand with Win Against Oilers

CHI vs EDM02/25/20137:30pm CST

The Chicago Blackhawks (15-0-3) look to extend their eighteen game points streak against the Edmonton Oilers (7-7-3) on home ice tonight. It’s the first of three meetings between the two Western Conference squads in this shortened season.

The Blackhawks, who, almost inconceivably, have yet to yield a regulation loss through their first 18 games, are playing in the second half of their fourth back-to-back this season after dispatching the perennially challenged Columbus Blue Jackets 1-0 last night. Despite putting forth one of their weakest efforts of the season, the Hawks were able to walk away with yet another victory on the strength of goa...

Game Day: Edmonton Oilers @ Phoenix Coyotes

The Edmonton Oilers, winners of six in a row, are off to their best start in a quarter-decade. They'll be the visitors tonight at Jobing.com Arena as they face off against the Phoenix Coyotes, who after a five-game unbeaten streak fell victim to Pekka Rinne's 23rd shutout on Thursday.

The Coyotes, who were 3-1 against the Oilers last season, sent Andy Miele back to the AHL's Portland Pirates yesterday, as Cal O'Reilly is expected to start tonight.  Mike Smith will likely be the starting goaltender, and Martin Hanzal's status is still questionable. Out for the Oilers are Cam Barker, Ales Hemsky, Ryan Whitney and Darcy Hordichuk.
