Game Preview: Kings vs. Blues

The Kings (3-5-1; 8 points) have a quick turn around after a devastating 3-2 loss in Detroit when they head to St. Louis to take on the Blues (6-4-1; 13 points) tonight at 5. The Kings have dropped their past two games and are 1-3 entering the final leg of their road trip. After a red hot start the Blues are on a four game skid earning only one point. St. Louis lost Saturday night 6-5 (SO) to Anaheim and hope to end their four game home stand on a positive note.

The Kings offensive woes continued in Detroit when they registered a season high 47 shots against Robby Howard only converting two for goals. St. Louis has allowed 22 goals in the past four games with a suspect ...

Detroit Gets Even With Blues

The Detroit Red Wings avenged a 6-0 opening night loss to the St. Louis Blues by beating their Central Division rivals 5-3 at the Joe Louis Arena.

Henrik Zetterberg had a hat trick and two assists, Jonathan Ericsson had a goal and two assists, and Pavel Datsyuk scored the game winner for Detroit.

Zetterberg scored his first goal on the powerplay on a pretty feed from Damien Brunner, who has a five game point streak. Zetterberg added a second goal on a breakaway from a feed from Ericsson.

Blackhawks wrap up the Opening Night hat trick with home opener win to go 3-0-0

The Chicago Blackhawks completed the Opening Night hat trick, securing their their win in a row in the third home opener they participated in -- this time, on home ice at the United Center in Chicago.

Before an opening night crowd of 21,455 - the largest opening night crowd in the NHL this season - the Blackhawks had a 3-0 lead and it looked like they might get their first shut out in nearly two years. However, St. Louis managed a late rally, scoring twice in the third period, to keep the game close.

Patrick Kane started the scoring at 7:20 into the first period. It was another 21 minutes before anyone would tally again; this time it was a Duncan Keith shot that d...

Blackhawks look to rock the Madhouse tonight in home opener

In just a few hours, the "feathered faithful" will fill the United Center to capacity, and the rafters will hopefully thunder to the chorus of "Chelsea Dagger", the Blackhawks' signature goal song.

There is no banner to raise to their own rafters this year, but the Blackhawks want to have a good home opener after ruining LA and Phoenix's.

Chicago will be kicking off their home games against one of their fiercest rivals, the St. Louis Blues. The Blues will be rolling into town on the back end of a road back-to-back after dispatching the Nashville Predators in a shootout on Monday night, 4-3. Prior to visiting Nashville, the Blue...

Where Are They Now? Dave Scatchard

It was on Twitter where former Islanders fan favorite Dave Scatchard retired from the game of hockey after talking to doctors that determined it wouldn’t be safe for him to continue playing hockey because of concussions. Today, Scatchard tweets about his wife, three children, and still keeps in contact with former teammates and brothers from the NHL. According to his bio, he is an entrepreneur. Islanders fans should remember Scatchard for his hard-nosed play on the ice as he never thought twice about throwing the body or dropping the mitts. Scatchard did whatever it took for the team to win, while skating around in his always-recognizable number 38 jersey.

Penguins Sign Grit Early, Showing Signs Of What Is To Come

On free agency day one, the Pittsburgh Penguins attempted to woo a few key additions, but as they decided to make everyone wait, Pittsburgh made a few strong depth moves.

Already acquiring strong two way forward Brandon Sutter via trade, Pittsburgh wanted to boost its toughness level.  After being beaten in all facets of the game in their opening round playoff series, the Penguins wanted to make sure that they were no longer going to be push over’s. Enter in Tanner Glass.

The UFA forward Glass spent last season with the Winnipeg Jets.  The 28 year old winger posted 246 hits and 51 blocked shots last season while averaging 1:46 shorthanded.  His physical pr...

TCL Round 2 Staff Predictions: St. Louis Blues vs. Los Angeles Kings

2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs - Western Conference SemifinalsSt. Louis Blues ( 2 ) vs. Los Angeles Kings ( 8 )  Also Read: Ty Fisher's Series preview for the Kings. Once again, we're looking at a series that most definitely has to be about the battle between the pipes, as St. Louis and Los Angeles face off as unlikely second round opponents. Jonathan Quick absolutely lit up the west this season and may have been the only reason the Kings even made the playoffs. On the other side of the ice, the Blues have two (count 'em!) goaltenders that could have and maybe should have been up for the Vezina trophy in Brian Elliott and Jaroslav Halak. We may be soun...

Checkmate: Kings eliminate Canucks; move on to 2nd round for first time since 2001

The odds were on Vancouver's side, but the fates favored the Kings.

After winning the President's Trophy for the second year in a row, it seemed possible for the Canucks to make another deep Cup run. After all, they were 60 minutes from taking it all last year, losing 5-2 in the Cup Final vs. the Bruins.

The Canucks made some trades and decisions over the summer that made the difference in the late season. German defenseman Christian Ehrhoff - who put up 50 points for Vancouver in 2010-11 - was allowed to become a UFA last summer; he signed with the Buffalo Sabres. The Canucks also traded away Mikael Samuelsson and Marco Sturm to the Florida Panthers, and rec...

TCL Round 1 Staff Predictions: St. Louis Blues vs. San Jose Sharks

( 2 ) ST. LOUIS BLUES vs. ( 7 ) SAN JOSE SHARKS

It's still uncertain whether the San Jose Sharks have shed their reputation of being chokers. They made the conference finals the last two seasons, but lost pretty badly both times. Considering every year lately seems to be "their year", even the conference finals seems like it's not enough. But this year is different. They haven't exactly been dominating the west as they usually do, in fact they barely squeaked into the playoffs. But the pressure is still there even if it might not seem like it, and people's jobs will more than likely be on the line if they "choke" yet again.&...
