Russia defeats USA for U-17 Gold, Ontario takes Bronze

ONTARIO vs SWEDEN

In the early game, Max Domi scored twice in the third period, part of a four-goal explosion by Ontario in the final 20 minutes, as the two-time defending gold medalists settled for bronze at the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with a 5-2 win over Sweden on Wednesday afternoon.

“The tide definitely turned in the third. We made that push and got the win,” said Domi, “Winning a medal means a lot.”

U-17 Championships Day 5 Recap

Sweden vs Atlantic

With a big game at stake for Sweden, they had to beat the Atlantic team. The first period was a back and forth style game with the Atlantic team being more physical. After a while in the period though, Sweden scored on a André Burakowsky goal. That goal seemed to upset Atlantic as they would take a penalty for tripping. Sweden could not take advantage with the extra man, but instead after their powerplay, they would take a penalty themselves. Burkowsky would go to the box for slashing, and Atlantic would take advantage. Kameron Kielly scored a goal with the assists going to Nathan MacKinnon and Mike Lyle. There would be one last Swedish penalty, but Atlantic...

Two giveaways on the ensuing advantage resulted in two breakaways and two goals by Leon Bristedt and Victor Ohman. Even though the shots were even at eleven for the period, Sweden was clearly the better team, using it’s size and skill to their advantage. Ohman scored his second on a one-timer to make it 4-0. Quebec’s Yan-Pavel Laplante scored a powerplay goal to cut the lead to 4-1. With Jeremy Gregoire and Anthony Duclair drawi...

Isles Prospect Check 12/19/2011

Part of the plan for the slow and steady rebuild was to have a talented pool of prospects to develop going forward; some of those prospects would make an impact on the immediate future of the team, while others would eventually follow suit down the line.

Slow and steady.

One of those players that might end up turning into an absolute gem is Anders Lee. Lee was taken in the 6th round by the Islanders in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft at 152nd overall. So far in 20 games with Notre Dame, Lee has 12 goals and eight assists for 20 points in 20 games played, placing him second in scoring on the team.
