Game Preview: Flames vs Anaheim Ducks

The Flames are right back at it tonight with the Anaheim Ducks in town as the Flames finish off rare back-to-back home games to open their shortened 2013 season. The Flames will look for their first win of the season after a disappointing 4-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks last night at the Dome. The Ducks on the other hand come into Calgary after a great start in Vancouver, beating the Canucks 7-3 to add to the Canucks never ending goaltending questions. This will be the first of three meetings between the teams this season.

Game Preview: Flames vs Vancouver Canucks

Another painful season is slowly coming to an end as the Flames will play their second last game tonight against their division rivals, the Vancouver Canucks. This will be the sixth and final meeting between the clubs and the second in just 6 days when the Canucks beat the Flames 3-2 in OT.

Game Preview: Flames vs Colorado Avalanche

The two fading teams in the West face-off tonight as the Flames host the Colorado Avalanche in their sixth and final meeting of the season. Once both in the heat of the battle for the 8th and final playoff spot, both teams have lost their games in recent stretches are now running out of chances to make up any ground. The Flames after another lackluster performance on Wednesday against the Kings have gone 1-3-3 in their last seven, while the Aves, who also only have 3 games remaining, have gone 0-3-1 in their last four games. This will be the sixth and final meeting between the clubs as Colorado has just one win against the Flames this year, coming in their last meeting, a 2-1 OT victory on Mar. 20th.

Game Preview: Flames vs Los Angeles Kings

The Flames finally snapped their five game losing streak on Monday with a huge 5-4 victory over the Dallas Stars to once again give them a breath in their chase for the 8th and final playoff spot. Tonight, like their remaining five games, becomes the game of the year as the Los Angeles Kings come to town as just one point separates the two teams. This is the fourth and final meeting between the clubs with the Flames winning two of the first three match-ups. It’s a must win game for both clubs as with a win tonight, the Flames will find themselves tied for that elusive 8th position with the Phoenix Coyotes, while the Kings can jump ahead of the Yotes with a victory of their own.

Game Preview: Flames vs San Jose Sharks

Some of the Flames best play has come against the Sharks this season and they will look to continue that as they host the Sharks in the fourth and final meeting of the season. The Sharks hold a 2-1 series lead but every game has been decided by one goal with two games needing extra time. The Flames have had a great month of March so far with a 4-1-1 record and even with all the injuries up front, have found their groove offensively, averaging 4.5 goals per game this month. The Sharks on the other hand recorded their first victory in 6 games last night, defeating the Oilers in Edmonton, 3-2. The Flames have done a good job this month taking advantage of struggling teams as they hope to catch the Sharks on the wrong foot tonight.

Game Preview: Flames vs Montreal Canadiens

Two struggling teams meet at the Dome tonight as the Flames and Montreal Canadiens finish off their season series in their second meeting. The Flames took the first game, in Montreal, 4-1 as Miikka Kiprusoff became the all-time franchise leader in goaltender wins, surpassing Mike Vernon. The Flames come into tonight’s match-up after another heart breaking loss to the Dallas Stars, 3-2 in a SO on Sunday afternoon. The Canadiens on the other hand only have pride to play for at this point as they will look to play spoilers the rest of the way, sitting in 15th place in the Eastern Conference.

Life for the Calgary Flames doesn’t get any easier tonight as they head into Anaheim to face the Ducks, to conclude their mini two-game road trip. The Flames return to Anaheim for the second time this season, a place where they haven’t won since 2004, going 0-9-5 during that stretch. This is the third of four meetings between the two clubs, as they have split the first two games, each winning on home ice. Both teams are scratching and clawing, trying to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Flames, after their victory in Phoenix last night, got within two points of the 8th place Dallas Stars, while the Ducks currently sit 7 points back.

It was a good road trip for the Flames as they managed 5 of 6 possible points, including another dominating, 6-2 victory over the Oilers on Saturday night. The Flames will look to get back on their winning ways at home as they host the San Jose Sharks tonight at the Dome. The Sharks sit third in the Western Conference but are currently on a 3-game losing skid being outscored 10-6 during the span. The Sharks also come into town playing on back-to-back, losing in a SO last night in Edmonton.
