Blackhawks face off versus struggling Oilers as circus trip continues

The Chicago Blackhawks (11-7-1) continue their circus trip with a game at the Oilers tonight in Edmonton.

This season, the Oilers are languishing at the bottom of the Pacific division with a 6-11-2 record. They're having problems scoring, and more importantly, they're having problems keeping the other teams' goals out of their net: they have 3.37 GAA versus 2.53 G/G. Their power play is more like a power pffft and their penalty kill is below 80%. The Oilers have won just 2 of 10 games they've played to date in November, and they're hungry for a win - or even just points. Edmonton is 0-9-1 versus the Western Conference so far this season.

Hawks bounce back, sweep season series with Edmonton

In their second game in two nights, the Hawks bounced back from a tough 2-1 OT loss against Montreal to win their third game against the Oilers to sweet the season series 5-3.  Antti Raanta made 18 saves to improve to 12-1-3, and the Hawks scored five goals on 41 shots, including a power play goal.

The Oilers, fresh off a come-from-behind victory against the Penguins, played well in the beginning...

Simmonds Score Two; Flyers Down Oilers, Bryz in Shootout

Just four minutes into the hockey game, it already seemed as if Ilya Bryzgalov was on his way to exacting revenge on his former team.

But there were 56 more minutes of hockey, and the Flyers didn't allow that to happen. Sparked by Wayne Simmonds' two-goal night, the Flyers came back to win in a shootout, 4-3, over Edmonton Saturday night.

Simmonds now leads the Flyers with 12 goals. Just three games ago, he had only half of that total.

Blackhawks host the Edmonton Oilers

The Blackhawks will take on the Edmonton Oilers (4-12-2) who currently reside in the cellar of the Pacific division in the Western Conference.  Both teams will be coming into this game as the second of back to back games.

The Oilers are coming in off of a matinee loss to the Flyers in Philadelphia and the Blackhawks are coming in off of a win in Dallas. The Oilers come into town, their suitcases packed full with troubles and questions along with their Dopp kits.

There is no question that there is enough young, skilled talent on the Oilers squad, their problems have been on the defensive side of the puck. The organization recently made a questionable trade with letting the...

Giroux Scores In Flyers Win

The Flyers snapped a few streaks in a big 4-2 win over the Oilers Saturday afternoon.

Claude Giroux scored his first goal of the season, snapping a 21-game drought that dated back to last season and the Flyers put up its first four-goal effort of the year. They also snapped a streak that saw the last 13 goals in the Wells Fargo Center scored by their opponents, a game-time span of 175 minutes, 22 seconds.

Pregame 10/17: Islanders vs. Oilers

The New York Islanders are in the midst of a four game home stand. The first of these four did not go as planned, as the Islanders surrendered a third period lead. They were eventually defeated in a shootout.

Game Preview: Flames vs Edmonton Oilers

The Battle of Alberta is re-ignited tonight with the Flames heading up north to meet their provincial rivals, the Edmonton Oilers. They are connected by the same highway but that is about the only thing these two have in common with each team heading in opposite directions in the standings. The Oilers currently sit in a tie for 10th, one point out of the playoffs, while the Flames sit 14th, just two points ahead of the 30th place Florida Panthers.

Blackhawks Fall to Visiting Oilers 6-5 for their Second Regulation Loss of the Season

The Chicago Blackhawks (21-2-3) suffered their second consecutive regulation loss Sunday night in a 6-5 barnburner against the visiting Edmonton Oilers (9-11-5), trading in their 24 game points streak for a 2 game pointless streak. After looking sluggish for most of their 6-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche just two days prior, the Blackhawks continued to appear as though they were skating through quicksand, surrendering four first period goals to a young Edmonton squad that had lost five straight games entering the night’s contest. The Oilers, having been shutout in their previous two outings, scored their first goal in nearly 168 minutes just 2:24 into the opening frame on S...

Game Preview: Kings vs. Oilers

Preview: The Kings (5-6-2; 12 points) head into Edmonton with the second worst record in the Western Conference. A physical 3-2 loss against the Blackhawks on Sunday should focus and motivate the Kings who have had success at Rex Place (7-0-2) over the past couple of seasons. The Oilers (6-5-3; 15 points) are rolling after a 6-4 come from behind win against the Avalanche, which was their highest point total of the season.

The 40-year-old Nikolai Khabibulin will be making his second start of the season for the Oilers. The veteran has had quality production in his previous two appearances allowing only three goals on 47 shots. Edmonton has a physical defense that seldomly...
