The Islanders head into Montreal to continue to play out the string of this disappointing season as the Canadiens have everything in the world to play for. Translation, the guys in white could be in for an ugly night.
As another Islander season draws closer to an ending, it’s never too early to start thinking about the future (it’s what we do best on Long Island). Free agency will come and go and big-ticket names will be shuffled around in trades. And the one name hanging out there that appears ripe for the taking, Montreal defenseman P.K. Subban, just so happens to make a heck of a lot of sense for the team in Nassau.
The Minnesota Wild visit the New York Islanders tonight in their second and final meeting of the season. The game will feature the first game back on Lon Island for former Islanders Matt Moulson and Nino Niederreiter. Puck drop is 7:00pm EST.
As announced yesterday, Thomas Vanek was dealt to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for prospect forward Sebastian Collberg. A conditional second round pick will be sent to the New York Islanders in addition to Collberg if the Habs make the playoffs, with a conditional fifth round pick then being sent to the Canadiens. However, if Montreal fails to make the playoffs, the trade stands as just a single player swap (Photo credit: Michael Cummo Photography/Flickr).
On a day highlighted by trade talk, the Islanders escaped on the ice and prevailed in overtime after blowing another 3rd period lead. The Vanek trade is still the number 1 story in Islanders nation, but this was a great way to have some fun while Garth and company look to get a deal done.
The New York Islanders played host to the Florida Panthers this afternoon, looking to redeem themselves after a very embarrassing 6-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils yesterday afternoon. To the Isles' dismay, that would not be the case as they squandered a two-goal lead in the third period to lose to the Panthers by a score of 5-3.
